Bolland

Dave Bolland has kind of gone under the radar because he has played with Robbie Schremp...who no doubt helped his numbers...and made it difficult ot understand how he's developing beyond that great London situation

I am wondering what NHL potential you see for Bolland...

Is he gonna just be a third liner...or since the Hawks could use scoring will he get this chance to shine...and does he have what it takes at the next level...

I've seen London play several times over the past few years and have always felt Bolland would be a better pro than Schremp. I still think he will be.

He does everything well, has a true sniper touch and will get down and dirty. Think of him as a Chris Drury type, perhaps with a bit more sniper upside. Another comparison might be Peca.

He does everything well in the offensive zone--he's a marvel both directing the play with his amazing vision and passing on the PP plus he has a wicked shot and can score himself--HE WILL BE A VITAL COG TO THE BLACKHAWS IMPROVING THEIR PP--no doubt about it...

HOWEVER--his 5x5 defensive play leaves lots to be desired--he just doesn't have the "effort" (not moving fast enough) in defensive resopnsiblities 5x5 that he puts into his "attack" thrusts....partially he may be "over-used" since London uses him as a PK specialist too,and since he also plays lots of PP time (London gets so many PP opportunites each game) that this workload means he is too tired 5x5 to play hard both ways--so he puts all his effort 5x5 into "attacking' and he tends to relax too much defensively...this won't be tolerated inthe pros and he must play harder defensively 5x5 (but I do not think he's fast enough to be used on the PK in the pros--so he should have more "energy" left to put out better defensively 5x5...

The other factor is that he sometimes gets caught coming out of his own zone because he really doesn't have top-end speed--so it is an untruth to say he does "everything well"--he does have some flaws to his game...but he should help the Hawks most on the PP...

I'd say a Drury-type with better numbers. Steve Larmer ll???? Doubtful. I hope I'm wrong.

Fair points. But "Everything well" really refers to his overall talents. He is a very good skater, so I'm not sure you can call that a weakness - it is certainly something he does 'well'. He might not be an elite burner at the NHL level, but that isn't a major concern IMO.

But I agree he has had to adapt to his primary roll with the Knights. His penalty killing is top notch though, as he is perhaps one of the most dangerous penalty killers in the league. He has multiple short-handed game winning goals this year, including a few in the playoffs as I recall.

The biggest issue right now is his weight. He consistently drops weight as the season goes on, and is likely 170 pounds or so right now. As he gets older, it will be easier for him to keep the weight on and build up some muscle, but for now, it could be a factor in delaying his arrival for another year at the NHL level.

I haven't seen him play, but if he's anywhere near Drury I'll be thrilled.
