Top Ten Blues Prospects

Ranked by maximum potential -

1) Alexei Shkotov, RW
2) Peter Sejna, LW
3) David Backes, RW
4) Christian Backman, D
5) Konstantin Barulin, G
6) Shawn Belle, D
7) Trevor Byrne, D
8) Johnny Pohl, C
9) Alexandre Bolduc, C
10) Lee Stempniak, RW

I mean if the player actually becomes the best possible NHL they can based on raw talent.

thoughts???

I'd say flip-flop Pohl and Belle. Depending on what Bolduc does in his development he might be low. Otherwise looks good.

I think Zakharov should be in the top 10. He is the closest thing we have to a pure sniper. I also think Bolduc is a better prospect then Shkotov (over-rated here).

Nice job. I agree with most of your assessment and find it interesting that you have Byrne rated ahead of Stuart, MacKenzie, Pollak and other defensemen when I believe they are getting more ice-time and more quality ice-time than he is. I agree with you that he is a better prospect with his size and ability and am curious why he may not be getting more (and better) ice-time. .... I thought he played well the 2 games I saw and can see him moving up next year. ..... Is Hemmingway doing any better?

Hemmingway and McClement have started to play better when McClaren was put on there line. He added the physical presence and now both players are playing better. IMO, it sounds like Mike Glumac will be a find as he has been scoring pretty regularly, granted most of them are around the net.

I'll take those kinds of goals all week long - shows someone who's willing to get dirty in front to score.

I agree on Glumac and I also believe that Ernie Hartlieb should also be added to that list of potential Blues' prospects. He too, has been a nice addition.

Both by the way played here in Ohio at Miami of Ohio and were teammates!!

If you're ranking on maximum potential alone, then Belle is bar far #1. He has the potential to be a super star defenseman. The next two would be Shkotov and Zakharov.. I'd probably give the edge to Shkotov.

Question why do some people not rate Belle high when it does seem like athletically and potentially he could be monster. I know he's raw and there were people ahead of him but I don't see a big reason not to rate him high potential wise. Is there a reason potential wise execwrite did not rate him higher.

You're probably right freeze23 (and degroat) that Belle should be rated higher just on talent and potential. Some of the things I read about his lack of hockey sense make me a little doubtful about how good he will be. But he's only 18 and has lots of time to get experience.

It will be interesting to see if Belle makes the Canadian World Juniors team and how he does if he plays.

Completely agree.

I also hear good things about Backes, again, based on maximum potential.

Let's not forget about Tuomas Nissinen who seems to be pulling up his shorts a little bit and improving on his status with Ilves Tampere in the SM-Liiga after Juha Pitkamaki went down as the starter. His stats read (as of now) 3-4-2 with 1 SO with a 2.78 GAA and .894 save pct.
Miklu makes me sound so smart!
