look for an avs trade within the next 48 hours

right now their farm club cant ice the required 17 skaters due to all the avs callups and aleeev was injured last night so it is even worse. add to that that selanne might be considering surgery on his knee andforsberg may be out longer than expected and you see a numbers problem.

most likely it may be a depth deal for hershey or so that the avs can send someone down to hershey, but if selanne needs surgery they may try to find a replacment.

possible rw replacements being steve thomas, maxim afinognov or maybe even a center such as oates or ronning moving forsber to the wing.
any teams have some depth forward available for late picks?

any ways loook for a deal soon.

Doubtful. All teams still have to live under the contract limit rule. You just can't arbitrarily add bodies because you run into injuries. Minor league teams will play with a minimum compliment if required. I remember a game where Calgary's farm team dressed 12 players for an AHL game because of callups and injuries. I would look for Hershey to sign a couple players to AHL tryout contracts to get by until the injuries and such work out.

I'd say a signing (ie Stumpy) is much more likely than a trade. I wouldn't mind us signing Stumpy at all really and it *might* be a situation he finds appealing.

Or get the trainer to play a game or 2

I think they can sign a player or 2 on a limited contract to buy some time until guys return from the injured list.

Don't the avs have an ECHL affiliate that they can call some players up to their AHL team from?

I seriously doubt we're making a deal. The kids we've called up have been playing decent, with the exception of Charlie Stephens. Kariya is due back soon, and I didn't hear anything about Selanne's injury in the Rangers game, so I think he's still planning to be in the lineup.

Getting Stumpy would have been nice during the offseason, but it's too late now. We don't need an aging, out-of-shape guy to sign, go out there and get hurt 2 games in. The Rangers made that mistake already with Rheaume. Please, let's not use the Rangers as a blueprint for success.

Thats the York Daily Record web site. Granted I was only able to give a quick look at the articles posted, but see nothing about a pontential Avs trade.

can't teams make emergency call-ups to juniors? i thought if you were down a certain number of players, you could call up one (or more) of your prospects who's still in juniors untill the unjured players come back.

Good lord, they have a 'bowler of the week' section in their Sports page.

When a tumbleweed rolls onto the road, their town must declare a national emergency.

The LA Kings had major problems last season, but never made unnecessary trades. Thats what the ECHL is for. And the UHL.

Hey its one of the few ways an average Joe like my self can get into the local papers.

I may not be good at a lot of things, but I carry a 180 average in bowling.

The first sentence of your post is factual and can be backed up by articles in the York Daily Record. The rest is pure speculation on your part.

The last time the Avs had this many injuries, they picked up deVries for a 2nd round pick. That sort of trade is possible, I guess, but I certainly see nothing in Lacroix's past dealings that would lead me to believe he will panic at this point in the season.

As for the Bears...maybe the Bolts can send them an extra player or two...or maybe they just tough it out and dress 17 for a few games...or maybe the Avs swing a minor deal for someone's borderline prospect to fill out the roster.

Despite the panic a couple of Avs fans have voiced on this board, the sky is NOT falling.

They may have a ‘Bowler of the Week’ featured on their sports page but they have Dave Sottile covering the Hershey Bears. I have been reading Sottile’s articles for years and have found him to be a rock solid source of information about the Avs farm team.

Hershey shares an affiliation with Tampa Bay, also, and only after the Ryan Craig call-up last weekend did Tampa fill its 6 slots.

Tampa has three more prospects/minor league skaters in Pensacola of the ECHL that could be recalled: Dwayne Hay, J.F. Soucy, Jeremy Van Hoof. I believe Van Hoof got a one game call-up to Hershey last week before being sent back.

At any rate, the Avs aren't in this alone and there are other options to consider with the Lightning.

The Lightning just had an organizational roster spot open up, so help could be on the way from Tampa in that sense, also, if a guy is signed.

The Bruins could probably afford to give up Rob Zamuner who is a serviceable forward and we could just give the 4th line spot back to Michal Grosek.

Actually this would be a decent idea because it would free up close to 2 million dollars to give us some payroll flexibility to add another defenseman later in the year.

The issue of 'payroll flexibility' is one reason why I do not expect the Avs to make a significant trade at this time. At the deadline, maybe...but not now...
