Callahan, a 21-year-old resident of Hilton, is on the verge of signing a three-year entry level contract with the Rangers, the team that drafted him in the fourth round (127th overall) in 2004.

Details of the contract were being finalized on Wednesday afternoon by his Pittsford-based agent, Steve Bartlett
Quote:
He's expected to become acclimated to pro hockey with Hartford in the Calder Cup playoffs. He could begin practicing with the Wolf Pack as early as Thursday. The Wolf Pack is tied 2-2 with the Portland Pirates in the Calder Cup Atlantic Division finals.

Thanks to Trippy who first found out about it.

The Wolf Pack is going to be a fun team next year!

GREAT news!

Now we have to get Guenin and Potter inked up, but they might wait till after the draft to do that since they have until August 15th, IIRC.

Is this guy good, I've heard of him, but unfamiliar with him, who is he comparable to. Sounds like good news. What position?

I've always thought of him as a Jed Ortmeyer with more offensive skill but less size. I'm hoping he will turn into a very good 3rd liner who can put in 15-20 goals. He's got great leadership qualities and plays every shift at 110%. Next year will be a telling story on him in Hartford.

He plays right wing.

we need. Both will take a couple of years. MSG should start broadcasting the pack games next year instead of the debbies and fishstixs. No one watches them anyway.

Neh, I feel Dubi will be on the 2nd line with Cally and Koripi on the 3rd.

Dubi, Cally, Korpi does have a nice ring to it though.

I was very impressed the year he played in the WJCs. He reminds me of Todd Harvey.

dont forget Joey Crabb, we must sign him as well. As for Walsh and Flynn, I would not mind if they get just ECHL contracts to start which wont go against the Rangers I dont think if it is just a ECHL contract.

Oh If he's like my favorite player, Matt Barnaby, I'm going to love this kid. I also wish MSG could broadcast some of the pack games, at least in the playoffs.

I get asked this a lot but I'm not too sure to be honest. All I can tell you is for a small guy, he's really feisty, he's a hard-worker, doesn't mind the corners or getting physical (or even dropping the gloves), he's got great skill with the puck, excellent speed, good finishing skills and underrated passing skills. His defense is good as well and was always a shorthanded threat. He's been a very complete player at the junior level and I'm curious as to how it will translate to the pro game.

sounds like a smaller kirk maltby or holmstrom (in that mold)... does he stand in front of the net or is that not a part of his game?

He has played that role when needed. He has a lot more scoring touch than Maltby but the defense, quickness and offensive ability while shorthanded are all comparable to Maltby. I think you'll find he's too small to be the guy in front in the pro game. Bigger defensemen would eat him alive, no matter how tough he is.

bummer. We really need one of those types. As long as he works hard and contributes on occasion I think we'd be excited about Ryan being a Ranger.

Does it pain you to see him a Ranger and not a Flyer? I always wonder about that.

Nah, I'm a fan of the player, it doesn't matter what team he plays for. Cam Janssen was one of the most exciting and loveable Guelph Storm players I can remember, I still love to see him do his thing even though he's a Devil.

Great post! Absolutely agree. Let the Debs and Icelanders get their own channel. And stop letting the Sabres use ours. Like both Guenin and Potter.

And great news on Callahan. I was thinking he wasn't going to sign and I'm glad I was wrong.
