Bertuzzi to Chicago proposals

I scoffed when I first saw the idea

but I talked to a buddy from vancouver and it looks like Vancouver is trying to get a trade dialoge with the Hawks about Bertuzzi--to replace Daze.

If my buddy is correct(he rarely is--but when he is right he is bang on) the nucks are only asking for prospects in return--but the hawks are trying to move 2 bad contracts in return

Any idea if Chicago is thinking about going after Bertuzzi?

If all it costs is prospects/bad contracts, or a combination of the two, I could definitley see Tallon discussing Bertuzzi.

I don't see top quality players coming to Chicago in free agency, so a trade or two will be the way it happens (if at all).

Having said this, I think there are other possibilities for the Hawks to explore, before turning to Bertuzzi.

I don't think i'd be opposed to having Bertuzzi on the team like I might've before. Tallon has admitted that he'd explore the trade route, with prospects being involved, in order to get some top six forwards and Bert certainly fits that bill. I'd expect at least one bad contract to be moved in a deal though for this to happen. Tallon has been cleared to spend $8-9M this summer and Bert's contract would eat a great deal of that up for one season wouldn't it? You have to give to get but I sure hope Barker and Bolland aren't prospects that Hawks are willing to offer for Bert.

Perhaps for 1 prospect (not named Bolland, Barker or Blunden) & 1 bad contract (Lapointe, C. Brown, Cullimore).

Barinka, Bertram, and Cullimore for Bertuzzi is a move I'd be all over. If he can get his game back, we should throw a truckload of money at him. He was top 10 player in the league two years ago. Those don't grow on trees.

The two names that jump to my mind are

two name you all will not like

Barker and Bolland

If the nucks are going to take bad contracts back

there are other teams out there that havew better players with bad contracts that teams are trying to move.

I can see something like this being discussed:

To Vancouver

Mark Bell
one of Barnaby, Brown or Cullimore(salary dump)
prospect not named Bolland, Skille or Barker

To Chicago

Todd Bertuzzi

Why is Mark Bell in that deal?

I think Bell with a bad contract alone could probably get Bertuzzi. No need for any level of prospects

Maybe Bell and Barnaby for Bert?

As a disclaimer, as an avs fan he's obviously not my favourite person, so maybe I am lowballing his value. However, I also think he was a 'top 10 in the league' player moreso because of his amazing linemates. The question is whether he would get that kind of support here in CHI.

A top line of Bert-Rutuu-Calder would be downright scary next season though......

I'd consider Bell straight up for Bert, but if the Hawks want to shed a contract in the same deal, a prospect needs to be added.

curtis brown, bochenski, fraser, and 4th and 5th round picks in 2006 for todd bertuzzi.
(the 4th and 5th can be dropped and replaced with the 2nd round pick aquired from ottawa in the arnason deal)

Weren't you saying in another thread that the only way Bertuzzi should be deal this off-season is if it's for a top draft pick or comparable? This deal is nothing of the sort. Brown is an overpaid 4th line center, Bochenski is another Jason King-type, and Fraser is a potential 3rd/4th liner at best. No way would I make this deal from a Canucks' perspective.

I think there's a very good chance that Bertuzzi will rebound next season, playing in his contract year, with healthy linemates and for a new coach. I don't think dumping Bertuzzi is the answer, and this trade appears to be just that, dumping him for the sake of it.

i totally agree with you peter and i did say that, but if bert was dealt now that would be the type of return (i also fear that would be the type of return) i just threw the proposal out to see if that would be considered (which is huge lowball offer in my opinion) i stand by keeping him unless we get a top6 pick at the draft, or a fat juicy offer at the deadline.

How about the following:

Canucks get: Calder, Cullimore and prospect for Bertuzzi

I am replacing Bell with Calder as I think he would be the better fit on the Canucks

I really don't think Calder is going anywhere. Or, if he is going somewhere, it'd be for a better player than Bertuzzi.

I'm not trying to say that Calder is a really great player, but you never hear a bad word said about the guy. He seems to be one of the leaders in the locker room, too.

Bell is cleary the better player (or at least has the higher upside).

I don't think the Canucks should consider moving Bertuzzi to Chicago unless it involves the 3rd overall pick heading back to Vancouver.

Is that sarcasm aimed at implying the absurdity of my blurb? Because I honestly can't tell at these boards anymore.

Just to throw this out:

Bertuzzi + 14th overall pick

for...

3rd overall pick + Martin Lapointe

Indeed.

There's a handful of players that i would trade 1 of Kessel, Toews, Staal or Backstrom for. Bert isn't one of them.

Bertuzzi won't be going to Chicago, unless that 3rd overall pick is comming to Vancouver.
