Unbelievable. This trade has a chance to be the one of the worst trades ever. A bluechip prospect and potential franchise goalie for Raycroft?! A huge overpayment?!

What's next - Kaberle and Steen for Niinimaa.

Personally I wouldn't want to be a goalie prospect in Dallas. Turco plays 85% of the games and Dallas has thrown in a prospect to play a regular season game just once in the past two seasons. How does anyone know what Smith or Ellis can do in the NHL because the Stars have never given them a chance.

Or maybe the Stars haven't played Smith or Ellis in the NHL because they know something about them we don't.

Yeah, probably the fact that two years ago Smith and Ellis were sent to Houston and Hamilton respectively and we all know what it's like to be a loaned goalie to another NHL team's farm team. Last year in Iowa they basically split the games with Smith getting about 10-12 more than Ellis. Pretty hard for either one of them to prepare for the next level given that kind of scenario. One of them should have been traded last summer for sure but they ended up signing Hedberg instead. Can't blame the kids for their situations.
