He seems to be a forgotten in this league, one of the most talented players in the league... I don't know i think Gainey should go @ him, see if he can help yashin play to the best of his abilities
There's a thread about that in the trade board, asking if you would accept the Isles first (7th overall) to take on Yashin's contract.
The islanders dont really even have a GM and its not very far from the draft, it would be easy to take advantage of a team that has no direction right now.

He's not only a coach killer, he's a GM killer, a president killer, an owner killer and a fanbase killer. No thanks!
Here's an interesting theory about mister Yashin. Now the Isle got sick of Millbury ( about time ) and his stupid mistakes and fired him. What if the team decides to fix some other mistakes and try to deal Yashin. Now I think we all agree that his contract pretty much stops any kind of deal. The only few teams who could take on his contract aren't dumb enough to do that because of his reputation and the lenght of his contract ( they could have a chance if there had only one year left ). So if he can't be dealt and is pretty much taking 2 roster spots because of his salary ( 7million a year = 2 above average players at 3.5million ) maybe they could decide to buy him out.
So if they do buy him out ( the rumor was floating around this year ) that mean Yashin become a UFA, and an interesting one at that. He does have the talent, and a change of scenery ( plus a one year contract ) could be enough to spark him up again.
Don't know about you but I wouldn't mind too much seeing Yashin in a habs jersey for a year or 2 at a decent ( max 3.5million ) price.
no, unless the Isles pick up a lot, and I mean a lot of his salary.
Which cannot be done under the new cba. So then no thanks. To make his contract worth while he would need to score 50 goals and get 120+ pts which he is not going to do.

so there we go. I would take on his contract, if the Isles gave us their first this year, next year and took on a smaller, perhaps expiring contract. Maybe Richard Zednik?

I mean look @ Jagr and what he did this year...
Anyone for Yashin?
No thank you! Yashin is "forgotten" because he has made himself forgettable over and over again. Jagr, while enigmatic and moody, is a proven winner. It's not just what he did this year. He's won two Stanley Cups, individual awards and has taken his team into nearly 150 playoff games while scoring more than a point per game. Look at Yashin's post-season numbers by comparison. Look also at his regular season numbers over the past 4-5 years. His offensive output is on the decline. If he's not scoring, what else is he good for? Why would you want to pay top dollar for a non-winning guy on the decline like that over the next FIVE YEARS until he's well into his late 30s?
As far as his reputed bad attitude is concerned, I haven't heard anything negative since that contract dispute episode in Ottawa. People can change and mature. I haven't heard of any similar problems in NYI. My problem with him is his total inability to take his team anywhere while earning close to the league max. Montreal is an environment that can make you or break you. I don't feel confident that he has the intestinal fortitude to survive the scrutiny as the highest paid guy and top center on the team. If we had a complimentary cast that would allow him to be what he is in more of a secondary/passenger role, then fine. But here, he'd be the top center and would be expected to lead. I can't see Gainey being crazy enough to take that gamble.
On the topic of Alexei, why not take a Flyer on Zhamnov? I'm sure he and Kovalev would just blossom together. Yes, Zhamnov was terrible this season, but he was also hampered by injuries. His value is really low, and I can't imagine he makes much. It might be worth a shot. Plus,, it gives us more size up the middle and a chance to trade Ribeiro more and improve our defence. Not saying we could get an all star dman, but an under 30 bigger dman would be nice. A guy like Andy Sutton perhaps? Atlanta might find a guy like Ribs useful if they feel they can't hold onto Savard.

why not Bonk instead??
Bonk vs Yashin, 1st pick
if the Isles add Nokelainen and Nilson, it could be interesting..
seriously, no way I want Yashin, the most overpaid man of the world. and I'm not only talking about hockey... not even about sports in general.
