This deal doesn't do a thing for Calgary. They give up 2 better assets and get back lesser assets. They give up their 5th for a 7th, that's retarded, and then they give up Gauthier for Noronen which makes absolutely no sense at all. If a player from Buffalo was headed to Calgary in this deal it would have to be Afinogenov. They need scoring. That being said, I don't think Calgary goes after Afinogenov at all. Bad deal for Calgary, great deal for Buffalo, hard to say for Montreal. Good value but Montreal fans won't like it. Komisarek is the next coming of Bobby Orr to them.
Because Afinogenov and Noronen are worth way more than McAmmond. Why?
If these two players are so valueable why are the Sabres wanting to get rid of them? Why is Afinogenov on popcorn row for his fifth straight game in a very young season? I do believe that Noronoen has worn out his exemptions and now has to clear waivers to be sent to the minors. Based on the Sabres goaltending situation (Miller being close) it seems like a move is a requirement. With the number of goaltenders available it doesn't see that Noronen would have a lot of value compared to some of the other guys out there. Doesn't make much sense to say that these two Sabres have great value. I'm not saying that McAmmond is a great return, but it does meet the needs of the original request and does provide a player with some solid skills and grit to a team that could use both.
