Whenever I'm reminded of the accident, I always think of what the Wings would have been like had Konstantinov been okay.

Vladdy, Lids, Chelios, Schneider.

Throw in Fischer and Kromwall.

Wow.

Actually, the Vladdie accident is what brought Chelios to town. If it had never happend then Cheli would have landed somewhere else.

Sometimes I wonder as well, altho they did win two cups without him playing.

Was there a book called "Broken Wings" or something?

If anyone could list any other books about Wings players or about the Wings from the 90's or even last few years would be greatful.

I assume you have "Hockey Gods" ...can't think of the guy's name who wrote it, but he writes for the Free Press. I found it a couple years ago for a buck, and never found another copy of it (dumb luck that it was the day before my birthday too).

Off the top of my head I think Cotsonika wrote it. It's really too bad he's on the Lions beat now, because he was by far the best Wings writer we've had.

not to mention the whole Krupp fiasco...

The Wings would have potentially been an entirely different organization if Konstantinov hadn't been riding in that limo. Without tying $4m up in Krupp, who else would the Wings have signed? Who would they have pursued in trades? Money still wouldn't have been an object but the Wings wouldn't have had that *huge* hole on the blueline to try to fill every season...

Yep, it was Cotsonika who wrote it, and he was the best beat writer by far.

I see the book all the time at the Borders in Rochester.

The book I've been looking for like 10 years is the one written by Joe Falls called "Steve Yzerman-Heart of a Champion". It was written before we won any Cups, and I remember seeing it at a Barnes and Noble. I put it back thinking I'd buy it in a few weeks, the next time I was there it was gone and out of print and now there's a copy on half.com for like $500.

Yeah, that's right. We signed Krupp originally to fill the void, and when that didn't work out we picked up Cheli and Ulf Samuelsson at the deadline.

It is interesting to ponder what would have been had things not changed so abruptly.

Hard to believe it was nine years ago. I still have my "Believe" button, it's in my cube at work.

Richard Gnida should rot in hell.

Time sure does fly... I wish the article had a little more meat to it. Seems like it was written in 2 minutes and doesn't really tell us much.
