Oilers @ Canadiens - November 4th, 2003 - Welcome back KILGER!

The fast flying Edmonton Oilers will scoot into Montreal on Tuesday, looking to breeze through the inconsistent Canadiens. Mathieu Garon will be in net, and may end up facing his AHL teammate, Oilers' back-up Ty Conklin. Montreal will once again miss Saku Koivu's offensive talents, and while the physical return of Chad Kilger will be good for the Habs, Koivu would have been a welcome addition to the line-up for a team that has scored two goals in its last four games.

Game Time: 7:30 PM EST, 4:30 PM PST
Venue : Centre Bell
TV: RDS
Radio : CKAC, CJAD

Probable Starting Netminders: Mathieu Garon (1-1-0, 1.50 GAA, .942 SV) vs. Tommy Salo ( 3-4-1, 3.48 GAA, .859 SV)

Likely Canadiens Line-up :

#73 Ryder - #71 Ribeiro - #20 Zednik
#25 Kilger - #90 Juneau - #24 Dackell
#38 Bulis - #94 Perreault - #82 Audette
#15 Langdon - #22 Begin - #37 Sundstrom

#79 Markov - #52 Rivet
#44 Souray - #5 Quintal
#51 Bouillon (NO!) - #43 Brisebois

Projected Oilers Line-Up:

Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky
Torres-York-Dvorak
Moreau-Reasoner-Pisani
Isbister-Sarno-Salmelainen

Staios-Smith
Bergeron-Ferguson
Brewer -Cross

Canadiens Scratches:

#65 Hainsey (healthy) BOO!, #81 Hossa (healthy) BOO!, #11 Koivu (knee) BOO!

Oilers Scratches:

# Stoll (flu?), # Semenov (healthy?), Chimera (healthy?) Laraque (healthy), ?

Key Questions:

- Is the uniting of Richard Zednik and Michael Ryder simply Claude Julien's way of telling the two snipers that they will be the first line winger combination, skating alonside a healthy captain Koivu?
- How will the club deal with the loss of arguably the team's two hardest workers, aside from Steve Begin, in Jason Ward and Jan Bulis?
- Is the continued abscence of Saku Koivu starting to concern a few of the veteran Habs?
- Will the Yanic Perreault - Donald Audette dynamic duo continue to see their ice time diminish?
- Can Mathieu Garon ignite the goaltending controversy in Montreal?
- How will the loss of speedster Jan Bulis affect the Habs against as fast a team as Edmonton? Or does Chad Kilger's blinding speed compensate for Bulis' loss?
- Speaking of Kilger, if he can play a solid third line game, does Bulis see a promotion when he returns?

Match-ups:

- Juneau vs. Smyth
- Kilger vs. Moreau
- York vs. Ribeiro
- Souray vs. Brewer
- Garon vs. Salo
- Dvorak vs. Zednik

Habs to Watch:

Great work jl.

3-2 Habs.

EDIT: I am predicting that the Oilers' speed will kill our trap, but I have faith that Garon will put on a show to bail us out.

Is it just me, I really really like Theodore but for some reason I'm more relaxed listening to the game when Garon is in net. I almost will go as far as saying we have a better chance of not getting blown out with him in goal. It's seem theo is either brilliant or awful, Garon is just always damn good.

Unbiased Canadian

Although I'm curious to see how this high-shooting first line will do, you gotta feel bad for Hossa: playing with Perreault and Audette is as bad a demotion as you can get.

Besides that, I think Garon will have another one of his typically strong games tonight.

Prediction #1: 3-1 Montreal, /w the empty netter.
Prediction #2: 2-0 Edmonton

Two predictions because I'm still not sure if the Habs' offence will kick in, and I don't know if they'll be able to keep up against Edmonton's speed.

This game is gonna be all about Garon ... i hope he's in shape cuz line 2 and 3 are way too slow against a fast team like Edmonton .

Hopefully the offence starts clicking soon.....Theodore has not got support offensively from his team for a while now, so it is hard to blame it all on him. He does have 3 shutouts already, so it says something about the team

Theodore ain't the trouble that is for sure. I think the key right now is obviously getting the first goal.

yeah, it sure helps being in the lead instead of playing catch-up hockey all the time.

As for getting the first goal, is it definately important but the habs did score first on Saturday against the Rangers before stinking up the joint and losing 5-1 to the Rangers

Something will light a fire under Zednik's ass, and he'll pot two and Bulis will add a late goal as well...

Montreal 3 Edmonton 1

Oiler lines tonight according to Edmonton journal

Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky
Torres-York-Dvorak
Moreau-Reasoner-Pisani
Isbister-Sarno-Salmelainen

Staios-Smith
Bergeron-Ferguson
Semenov-Cross

Laraque,Brewer, and Chimera are all reportedly healthy scratches. Laraque does have a sore hand from a fight but MacT has already criticized his inconsistant play this year and might be more performance related. So no Laraque vs. Langdon (lucky Langdon saves him a sure-fire beating )

Brewer has really struggled this year. I moved from AB last year and a buddy of mine has season's tickets to the Oilers every year. He said Brewer has baffled the fans there. He has been so good the last few years, getting better every year. Looks to be a bit of a hiccup in his career. He's a good player though, I'm glad he's not in the Oilers line-up.

Hmmm... that could be read in two ways.

1 - Lucky Langdon. Saves him (self) a sure ass beating.

2 - Lucky (for Laraque). Langdon saves him (from getting) a sure ass beating.

Incidentally, why isn't this thread glued to the top of my screen?

Ok people this is the official lineup according to RDS.ca:

Ryder - Ribeiro - Zednik
Bulis - Perreault - Audette
Sundstrom - Juneau - Dackell
4th line: they didn't specify but probably Langdon - Begin - Kilger

* Hossa is a healthy scratch. The coach decided to take him out of the lineup (cause Audette has been doing so good right? )

Also Bouillon will replace Hainsey.

So even smaller and softer. That should be a good game...
