Koivu: Top Ten All Time?

Koivu: 460 points
Lach: 623 points

Saku needs less than 200 points, and has at least three years to do it (I imagine he'll at least play out the contract. Hopefully plays more, though). I'd love to see him break into the top ten all time scoring leaders for this franchise.

Anyone else think it's possible?

I think it's safe to say that he can get around 60 points a year, so he should be able to get it within his contract.

Yeah I expect him to easily pass Lach's totals next season, we are talking about god after all.

not bad for a (number 2) center who is always hearth to be on the top 10 of a franchise like the habs.

im so happy he has a no trade clause, i love him!

I find it strange and ironic that even in a thread which demonstrates Koivu's offensive ability, people will still claim he's a number two centerman.

Maybe pitiful is a better word than strange or ironic.

I'm pretty sure habsforlife was being sarcastic. Like mocking people who call him a #2 center, saying that the numbers indicate otherwise.

If the Habs would have had a better centerman than Saku in the last ten years, Koivu would have even less points - less PP time... So, yes, if he plays another 5 years, he could be the 10th point getters in habs history.

bingo!
i was beeing sacarstic.

he can not be the player he could simply because he doesnt have a 2 line center to help him out. he is just alone for so many years.

i dont have names but give him a arnott or a real number 2 center and it will be another game im god damn sure about that.

now give us a good number 2 center and let koivu take care of the rest!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't. Saku will have to come up with a much better offensive season to be even mentioned in the same phrase as Lach.

What if Koivu had played with Maurice Richard for most of his career, as Lach did? Shouldn't you take that into consideration?

You're not giving Lach enough credit here. Elmer Lach was as important to Richard as was Toe Blake at the time.

Besides, Koivu would not have played with Richard, since Richard hated euros. He would have probably ripped his head off.

Saku has to catch Mario at first ...124 points

mario Tremblay, third liner ; 258 326 584
Saku koivu , first liner ; 137 323 460

Saku is going to do it in less games but probably in equal or more seasons ...

The problem with your list is that it didn't considere the players that played also for other teams . Damphouse for one is really close of those stats , but did it in 4-5 season before being traded to San José .Same for John Fergusson and other players .

Anyway , if Saku plays at least 12 other seasons , may be he could catch Lafleur ...

I love the subtle Koivu bashing in this thread.

Personally I really hope he does it. His name would look so sweet on that list.

10 more years, averaging just 50 pts per year, I can see him giving the Rocket a run for #4. Go Saku!

Not really, just do the math. 3 60 points seasons will put him ahead of Lach.
and when he does I bet someone will put it in a phrase ressembling ; Saku has passed Lach in the top ten point getters for the Montreal Canadiens.

Even then , after his contract he will still have a few years left and we can sign him for less but with bonuses since he will be 35+.
