Richards gets 5 Yrs 40 Million.

Important for the Flyers for two reasons.

1. Gagne's value certainly increases now, Don't see being able to give him less than 5, 5.5.

2. No way will Tampa be able to re-sign Pavel Kubina, who I think would look good on the back end.

Tampa is turning into the Colts of the NHL... they now have three MASSIVE contracts to deal with against the cap...

Not even close. Gagne isn't anywhere near the player that Richards is. That's not an insult to Simon, that's just a fact. Richards is one of the top ten players in the game and is so unassumingly. Gagne has great talent, but he's nowhere near the player that Richards. Gagne's value right now is about 3.5 to 4 a year. Noway does he get anywhere near 5 or 5.5

Or it means that Tampa Bay might consider dealing one of Lacavalier or St.Louis to free up salary. If that's the case, then there's plenty of money there to sign Kubina and get a goalie. I don't think we've heard the end of Tampa Bay making moves.

Now, I'm pretty sure that every team is going to be all over the Brad Richards move and how it was a bad signing and that Tampa Bay are causing salaries to rise, etc.....Fact of the matter is that Richards is their best player. Not Lacavalier, not St.Louis. They needed to keep Brad under contract, but what a cost.

I'm wondering if they will try to keep vinny and MSL as well... if they do they may be looking to dump modin, prospal, etc for cheap players like radio or dimitrakos for example... in which case we may be able to pick up a decent winger from them.

I wouldn't mind seeing Fedotenko come back. He'd be a great 2nd line winger to play with Carter and Umberger. He could do a lot of the dirty work and make things go from there. However, I don't know about anyone else on here, I've got a sneaking suspicion that Eager will be that 2nd line winger they'll use. Could be fun to watch though. Eager steam rolls everyone, frees up space for Carter and Umberger and could chip in with garbage goals. He could possibly get 15 to 20 playing on that line.

Has anyone actually done the math? $20 million a year for three players. Right now, that's more than half the cap, it will be slightly less than half once it goes up.

yeah, its nuts. i don't see how this helps tampa one bit. they squeezed into the 8th seed with basically the same team they are heading into next season with... only this time they have like 8 million to throw at 6 or so new players.

they said their issues were on D and in looking for an elite goalie, but now they basically reinforced their strengths and screwed themselves in fixing their weeknesses.

this might make sense if coupled with more signifigant moves, but if not, this in no way can be looked on as a good signing.

it would make a ton of sense if they made a ballsy trade involving Vinny or something...

First

Second: who would you rather have, Brad Richards for 7.8 mil, or Hatcher and Rathje for 7 mil?

What an overpayment! Giving almost 8M$ to Richards, as good he can be, is totaly ridiculous...I just hope Clarkie will be able to make a much fairer offer to Gagne, and that this one will be reasonnable!

Feaster just ruined the FA market...

I like Fedotenko as a player, but I think he's a bad linemate for Carter-Umberger. The ideal winger would be a slick playmaker. Rusty would be a better match for Richards.

If Gagne wants $5.5M+ he's going to be sitting and waiting for a new team to play for

This could be a nice opportunity to steal a pick or two. Their goaltending is shoddy as hell, and only getting older. The Flyers goaltending is average, cheap and still relatively young. If Clarke moved Esche it would give the Flyers a back-up, Frank the no.1 spot, and a couple of picks... something to think about.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I want Rusty back cause he scores big goals when needed and has a lot of heart, two things this team needs, but he does not fit with Carter and Umberger at all. I would like to see him on the "3rd" line with Richards and Handzus.

That article is kind of depressing. He has no plans for the goalies, has no plans to trade the big lumbering idiot defensemen and Petr Nedved is still going to be one of our centremen.

I didn't care for that part either, but it did say Nashville is looking for a big defenseman. But I did like this part at the end.

Clarke said forward prospects Ryan Potulny, Stefan Ruzicka and Steve Downie will be given every opportunity to crack the Flyers' lineup in training camp.
