Canadiens at the IIHF World Championships

Now that we're officially out, who's going to Latvia?

Here's a look at who might go :

Switzerland : Mark Streit, David Aebischer
Russia : Andrei Markov, Alex Kovalev (if he feels like it), Perezhogin (?)
Slovakia : Richard Zednik
USA : Chris Higgins (why not?)..maybe even Mike Komisarek
Canada : Craig Rivet and Sheldon Souray have been there before...who knows...Ryder was also on the 40 men roster for the Olympics
Czech Republic : Jan Bulis
Sweden : Sundström (very doubtful)
Finland : Captain Koivu will obviously not be there...
Belarus : Andrei Kostitsyn

I think that it should be great to see a lot of Habs play there!

Could Pleks be a call up as well? What about Bouillon? The Americans might like him...

I doubt the Olympians are going anywhere. They've gotta be exhausted.

There are preliminary rosters on the links I posted. Probably players who said they would play if they were eliminated.

Rivet looked good the last time around at the worlds. Souray looked like an arse. In fact, he looked as bad as he does in the NHL, defensively. He's not far from the truth.

You might be right, it's just that the 1st time I saw your post, you had only written about th Belarusians. I still think that if Rivet, Souray or Ryder get a call, they will go, though.

As far as Perez goes, he was born in Khazakstan (sp?) but he plays for Team Russia.

i dont have much against rivet, but hes definitly not national team material, souray on the other hand brings more to the team and makes up for his defensive shortcommings with his offensive attributes

Bigger ice surface = more space for ppl to make Souray look like a pylon

I heard the Russian team wouldn't accept any established NHLers besides Ovechkin due to continuous conflicts between the coaches and players over the style of play (read it in an interview with AO somewhere today), so somehow I feel that Perezhogin won'T get the shaft as opposed to say Kovalev and maybe even Markov since he's more used to the European style of play.
