Kiel?

This is mainly out of curiousity, but does anyone know hockey wise what Kiel is like?

I know there's not a DEL team there and i haven't found much online.

Afaik there´s no hockey in Kiel.

Good old ETC Timmendorf might be the nearest option of hockey when you´re in Kiel.

Kiel is first and foremost a handball (THW Kiel) stronghold. Timmendorf would be the nearest hockey club but they're only Regionalliga (4th tier). The Hamburg Freezers would be the nearest top club.

You can take the ferry from Kiel to Gothenburg. The Frölunda Indians HC of the SEL play in Gothenburg. I can look up the prices, if you want me to.

Ok thanks. Carrying the American bias into this you would automaticaly think that the Northernmost area of a country would be the most devoted to hockey. But I guess it's the opposite in Germany with the Alps being in the south.

Yep, there's very little hockey between Hamburg and Esbjerg in Denmark. Kiel has never had pro hockey and Timmendorf is, as stated above, in the fourth league. However, if you happen to be moving to Kiel for any reason, there is a good inline hockey program there with nice folks running, many of whom have been in North America for one reason or another. Otherwise, taking the 70 minute ride to Hamburg to watch the Freezers is the best option.

It's just some guy from my department is there, I was watching a documentary featuring the 1918 Mutiny and I've been playing DEL teams on 06 lately. Just some pointless curiosity.

I've been near there. I was in Hamburg and traveled up to the Baltic to ferry to Copenhagen. This was like 5 years ago so I think that's before the Freezers were there.

The Pay TV Channel Premiere (www. premiere.de) has the Broadcasting Rights on DEL Hockey. They bring 1 or 2 Live Games a week.

If you are a lucky one you can catch some Game Highlights on lokal TV Stations in Free TV. (NDR for Hamburg and Hannover, HR3 for Frankfurt, Bayern 3 for the Bavarian Teams e.g.).
