Please no habs player x for St-Louis proposals

hey guys,

with this news of richards signing 8millions / 5 years, please nobody suggests martin st-louis to MTL because he costs too much for what he can bring at the age he is.

I agree, also no Lecavalier to Montreal either as Tampa will not trade him to the same Conference...especially a team they will battle for the 8th spot next year.

I'd give Tampa Bonk straight up for St. Louis. He's still a point a game player and the salary will not be that great then.

It's something to at least consider. Tampa has to get rid of one of the three, they can't keep $20 million tied up in three guys with so many other holes. Montreal could actually afford the contract, if they think Marty can get back to anywhere near where he was in 2004. Might be a gamble worth taking.

Instead of everyone's dream of replacing Ribiero with a $5 million 2nd line centre (like Jokinen or Arnott), why not replace Bulis with a $5.25 million 2nd line winger who has won a Stanley Cup, Art Ross, and Hart trophies?

Move Zednik and Aebischer to free some salary space, and don't go out and buy an overpaid premium defenseman. Fill the rest of the spots with young guys. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. That one point a game is worth 6.5 millions per year for 5 years? anyway...61 points in 80 games is not 1 point per game.

Last year Radek gave us 1 point for every $109k. St-Louis gave 1 point for every 106k. One locks up 2.3in cap space...the other 6.5. One will be UFA in one year...the other has 4 or 5 years left.

With Bonk at least you can add a 4.3 million dollar guy on the team.

I'd rather we buy out Bonk or llet him leave as a UFA next year then get stuck with St-Louis for 5 years.

Z and Abs could be dealt to move up in the draft. Considering we add enough offense in St.Louis for Bonk. Payroll stays about the same.

The mods had to sticky Luongo and Lecavalier threads in the past, and it's a great idea.

Tampa Bay should get a proposal sticky unto itself.

Funny, I don't see any proposals. Just discussion about whether St Louis in a Habs uniform is a good idea or a terrible idea.

No, it's $5.25 million. Who cares what he made last year, you average out the contract for the cap hit, the only number that matters. He signed a 6-year contract for $31.5 million, which is $5.25 million per year.

It's 5.25 million a year(6 yr-31 million). With the last year being a team option. So, we only have 4 years left. This is a former Hart trophy winner coming off an off season.

We can't intice any UFA to sign with Montreal(discussed in the 2006 Time of Opportunity thread), this is our chance to add quality cheap

Ok I didnt check the average salary...still the numbers dont make it worht while.
He's 31 and only had one season with more then 1ppg.
St-Louis average points per game over the last 5 years 0.8 and over the last 3 years 0.9.

Durring the last 5 years Koivu had 0.84 points per game. Yet ppl complained that his 4.8 x 3 year deal was too much. Yet you are willing to give 5.25 x 5 years to a guy with with similar stats?

I'd say yes if St.Louis had 1 or 2 remaining years on his contract, but he still has 5 (or 4) years left! We can't afford this!!!

If we have room on our payroll for one more largish-$$$ player... I wouldn't pick St.Louis as that player. There will be other, better ones available at some point, and I would hate to see the Habs tie their hands for the next 4 years by taking on St.Louis. Not that I think the Bolts would actually want to move him, but hypothetically speaking, of course.

I followed St-Louis against Ottawa, and he was one of the very few Tampa players to play his heart out. Even Tortorella acknowledged it in the post-game press conference. St-Louis is the heart of the Tampa team. He blocked shots, took the body, scored and played like a real Hart champion.

People, don't be so sure he's the guy to be dealt here.

You can't help but admire his talent and spirit but he has three things going against him: his contract, his age, and his size.

Totally agree, not interested at all in him. Not worth this much of a gamble.

St.Louis was just a one-year wonder who milked that one year into one of the most ridiculous contracts in the NHL.

I hope Bob Gainey doesn't even consider getting him.

Forget about St. Louis, he has a no trade clause in his contract.

So he was lucky for 82 games ?

He plays with heart and has good offensive skills. He his very, very fast. He is a great asset for any hockey team. Will it convert in Art trophy numbers avery year, probably not, but he's still a very good hockey player.

I can totally understand that people are worried about his contract, but he's not a 1 year wonder.
