Habs to get Ruutu?

I was watching RIS this morning and thought that tehir hockey analyst had mentioned the Habs going after Tuomo Ruutu.
Anyone else hear this?

Gainey is a genius if he can do this.

I highly doubt it will happen.

There have also been reports that he is contemplating retiring... Retirement Thread Link

At any rate, as much as I would love the Habs to grab the kid, his injury history would make me leary about paying the price required to acquire him.

I think RIS also said that he might go after Jarko or Tuomo.

I'm much less excited at the prospect of acquiring Jarko but I suppose the Habs could use some additional sandpaper in their lineup.

Jarkko is an ideal fourth liner who will be a UFA this Summer.

Tuomo is a young, potential franchise forward who is considering retirement this Summer due to nagging, recurring injuries.

Jarkko is the far more realistic possibility,

I would prefer Tuommo though, imagine if he plays like he did in the 2nd half of the 03-04 season, put him with Kovalev and Pleky, then we're in business.

I don't think I would want to take a chance on someone with so many injuries already.

IMO he's better than all of the Habs 4th liners (save for Begin).

If we do get Jarkko, this is a bad sign, like the Dandenault signing was. It means the team won't be upgraded.

J. Ruutu as a replacement for the potential departure of Murray from the 4th line means the team won't be upgraded?

It's not a question of who you would prefer. It's like a fan of another team saying they are getting Jan Bulis or Chris Higgins. Obviously they would prefer Higgins. But Bulis is the on-the-market UFA.

Anyway, until a source like RDS picks it up from RIS, take it with a grain of salt. And that's if that is indeed what RIS even said to begin with.

Now that's funny considering RIS is RDS's affiliate all sports news channel!

Jarko is more of a pest than any of our players. He'd definitely be good to have around. Imo, he's more valuable then Murray.

Yes, I know, but RDS also broadcasts its own news, and a story like this about the Habs would have been picked up them if if were true or actually reported.

Wouldn't that be the ideal time to get a potential franchise player dirt-cheap?

I concur, which is why I wanted to know what Rake meant when he said acquiring Jarkko means that the team won't be upgraded.

Murray does a great job....I would not want to see Begin jr leave. Replace...Downey...or Sundstrom by Ruutu but not Murray...plz

Sounds like a plan to me, unfortunately I'm not so sure that the Hawks management is on board. They have to view T. Ruutu as a franchise building block or at the very least a very good asset, which means they'll be looking for full value in return (and that's if they even entertain the notion of moving him).

No....anything that's on RIS is there because they are showing other stuff on RDS at the time. What you see on RIS all day long...you see on sport 30 later.
