Hextall Reportedly Considered by Kings

Ron Hextall, director of player personnel for the Philadelphia Flyers, is among to leading candidates to become the Kings' assistant general manager, league sources said.

Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi has received permission from the Flyers to speak with Hextall. The two worked together in Philadelphia the last two years.

The Kings are also believed to be interested in agent Jeff Solomon for a front-office position overseeing the team's payroll in relation to the salary cap, a league source said.

Kings officials declined to comment on either report.

It would be interesting to get a former player in here who does not have a history with the Kings. That is unheard of!!!!

You can't have him... for anything less than an 07 first round pick.

It's actually kind of funny that, first, Taylor gave the Flyers future considerstaions to get Roenick, then Leiweke gave them a pick to get Lombardi, and now Lombardi is possibly giving them a pick to get Hextall. It's as if everyone in charge of the Kings has to pay their dues to the Flyers, heh. What's next? Crawford giving them a pick for one of their assistant coaches?

I have never heard of an assitant GM being worth so much......if he is so valuable he should already have Clarke's job.

Look, Hextall's way past his prime. The dude has no upside left (except beard upside). If you think the Kings think trading a 1st rounder for an assistant GM is funny, then I think that you think wrong.

That's what I think, I think.

Wait a minute here, I thought we were in the business of doing favors? We send you Cechmanek and in return the Kings sent us a second round pick coated w/ groin injures! Then, the Flyers send one of their best scouts to pursue his career as a General Manager for another second round pick. God knows what this one's laced with. I'm just saying... if the Flyers pick up another LA King Trojan Horse there better be something to look forward to.

I can't wait for the future considerations! *shudders*

Are you saying you've gotten the worst of these "exchanges"?

Yeah, poor Flyers. We give you a second round pick for the right to relieve you of Cechmanek to nab Esche. And we give you cap room to sign Forsberg for Jeremy "60%" Roenick.

I suddenly feel so lucky that we've dealt with the Flyers as much as we have

Absolutely. The Kings have rid themselves of the injury bug, acquired an All-star goaltender (also an Olympic Bronze medalist), and were paid for taking Jeremy Roenick... arguably the best Flyers forward in 03. I'm just waiting for one of the trades to go our way is all.

So we got an out of shape Chokemaniac, a 5 million dollar 4th line forward....and since when did we get rid of the injury bug?

Wow. Just Wow. When did we get rid of the injury bug? Yep, an all-star goaltender that got run of the league the next year. Key in the Roenick thing, IN 03!!! And a second round pick is the most ever given for another team's scout. I cannot understand how a Flyers fan could complain.

No kidding. Anyone who'd rather have apathetic Cechmanek and old Roenick instead of Esche and Forsberg - any day of the week - is straight up certifiable. Take those trades back- PLEASE!!

Re: Hextall, I like the idea of bringing in more people associated w/the Flyers- as an organization, the only thing they care about is WINNING. With our management having to be so concerned about profit [or minimizing loss, at least] over the last couple years, a single-minded focus on the Cup would be a welcome change. For them, any year they don't win a Cup is a failure, while for us it's only been a failure in the organization's eyes if we don't get at least one round of playoff revenue. Flyers have also done a dayam good job of drafting and developing impact players...

I also like that he's a fiery kind of guy- again, something the Kings have been sorely missing, although we've now got a bit of it in Crawford. In that sense, I think Hextall's fire would be a good counterpoint to Lombardi's quiet intensity. It also wouldn't suck to have someone who knows his arse from his elbow about goaltending around an organization that has never successfully developed one [except Rogie].

An update:

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/sports/14669371.htm

Hextall's opportunity. Ron Hextall, the Flyers' director of pro hockey personnel, is expected to be offered the assistant general manager's position in Los Angeles by newly appointed Kings GM Dean Lombardi.

Lombardi confirmed that Hextall, a former Flyers goalie and scout, is one of three candidates for the job, but he has not been interviewed yet.

The Flyers could offer Hextall that same title, but he would not leapfrog over Paul Holmgren, who already holds the assistant's title and is next in line for general manager Bob Clarke's job. Hextall and Lombardi could not be reached last night.
