2006 UFA Pool

Because of all the money flying around it could be best if the Habs stayed out of the UFA market this summer. Salaries are jumping again plus we have a hard time attracting free agents. Some of these big contracts will turn into bad ones in less than a year. Tomorrow's Theodore's, St.Louis' and Gonchar's type contracts.

Look at McCabe at 6 million....Arnott and others will surely get the same or more.

For example, what are we going to have to pay Markov a year from now if we gave a defenseman the caliber of McCabe 6 million?

So your saying we should keep our team and struggle next season again to make the playoffs?

If the Habs don't get a solid player that will show the fans "we wanna win" forget about me ever buying tickets again.

One thing for sure, with the cap, even if it's up, teams simply won't have enough money to sign all those greedy ******** the salary they want, so I think alot will try to stick with their prospects, and alot of those players simply won't have a contract at the beginning of the season, which is fine IMO... perhaps they'll think about reducing their demands... althought it must be tough to think when you're a hockey player...

As a said when the lockout was resolved you are gonna see two types of players in the NHL. Superstars making 5million or more per season and Role players at under 2million per year. The inbetween guys will slowly filter out.

Guys like Richards and Lidstrom, Jagr, Thornton will still get big bucks. Guys like Martin Lapointe will no longer be offered big deals.

The GMs who learn this the fastest will survive, those who don't will be fired for having crappy teams.

I understand what you are saying, but you hate to cheer for a team that passes

on improving the team now, for the sake of next year.I would hope with our solid

group of prospects in the system, the rebuilding process is over, and we are ready

to become a top team by whatever means nessesary

So, we you would offer a Arnott 6+ million plus a year?

Many GMs are being patient like Regier in Buffalo. The cap may go down or up the year after next year so waiting may be a good idea or it may not. If Buffalo wants to upgrade this summer it will cost more than it would have last summer but maybe the year after it will be less.

Basically, we don't know. Not signing someone this summer , especially if there's a player we covet available, can backfire if the cap continue to goes up.
