If there was a way to get:

Zednik, Koivu, Markov & Garon

for

Iginla & Gauthier

and make it work in the payroll, that one would be difficult to pass up. Then, it would make sending Conroy to NJ for Gomez much more palatable. These deals might also be enough to propel Calgary into a playoff team.

I just don't buy any of this. As much as i would absolutely love to see Iginla in Montreal, this is not an organization that can afford to give up 3 top assets for one player.

If the rumor had any truth to it and Calgary had a crack at anyone other than Theodore, then how does Montreal get better by trading 3 of Koivu, Zednik, Komisarek, Markov, Garon, etc...for Iginla?

I don't think there is any chance that the Habs would make that trade.

If I'm Bob Gainey, I will offer

Zednik, Bulis and Higgins/Hossa and 1er round pick for Iginla and 2e round pick

I think Montreal has deep in young wingers now, so they can afford to let one in trade to receive a power forward... Zednik can score 30 goals and Bulis is an excellent 2 way winger.

How about:

Iginla
McLennan
Conroy
Gauthier
2nd rouder

for

Garon
Koivu
Markov
Zednik
1st rounder

Thoughts?

Koivu won't be traded because his value isn't that high since he's injury prone. Imagine the PR disaster if they trade Koivu...

How about you start cheering for the Habs instead if you want to see all those players in your favorite team, might be an easier way.

Thoughs? Calgary grossly overpays. Why would the Flames want Koivu? He's small and extremely injury prone, and not in the Gauthier fashion either. Koivu gets hurt getting out of bed in the morning. Not a guy you deal your franchise player for. I think having him in the deal weakens it more than makes it attractive. You're taking on someone else's problems by trading for him. Doesn't make sense.

What do you guys think?

is it a good trade if it was

Komisarek,Souray,Zednik ? or Komi,Souray,Koivu ?
That's kinda doubtfull. I can't see a GM saying somthing like that and I definatly can't see Calgary giving the star attraction away for anything less then stellar package in return.

It's wishful thinking on my part. If the rumor that Bob Gainey actually told Daryl Sutter that he could pick any 3 players off the roster, excluding Theodore, had any basis in fact, this wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.

Be more adventerous, BR, and venture further from the hotels. Next time you're in Montreal, dine at Chez la Mere Michel & you'll PM to thank me.

True, but when bored on a Wednesday night it was a good timewaster...

I'd go for Komisarek, Zednik, and Perezhogin. Of course this is rediculous.

Well this actually seems like a good trade and something that could actually happen. Calgary sheds a big salary, gets some quality players in return and Montreal gets that top line player they desperatly need.

Never know...

Montreal shouldn't do this deal. Then they'd have the same problem Calgary has now--over-reliance on one player to make all the offense. Plus, outside of Koivu, Montreal doesn't really have any sort of elite playmaker to unlock Iginla's scoring potential.

Hmm, yes, this trade works because again we upgrade our defense when we desperately need young defensemen, and downgrade on offense, which we have an abundance of.

This deal is lateral, at best, for Calgary.

Well I kinda like it as a Habs point a view. People must realise that the key player in the MTL package is Markov and not Zednik (Markov is a future 45-55pts D)....Also i'm wondering if the Habs can afford a 8m$+ salary (don't forget that we have Theo at5,5m$ ands Saku at 4.5m$)

Aren't you being a little harsh on Koivu, Lanny? The guy faced down cancer. Then, he returned to prepare himself for playoff action, long before any oncologist would've recommended. It speaks volumes about his character and commitment.

Ummmm, because it was so yesterday?

Face it, the Montreal media spin more "Rumours" than Warner Music presses Fleetwood Mac albums.
