What is up with Adam Courchaine?

I am trying to get an update on Adam Courchaine who the wild drafed from the Vancouver Giants a few drafts ago.

I remember at the time I got my head handed to me by Giants fans when I said he was too slow with his skating style for the nhl.

I see he spent the last season in the ECHL--how far down the prospect chart has this guy fallen off

Does he still have a future with the wild

tanks in advance.

he's with Gwinnett of the ECHL, who are in the ECHL Kelly Cup finals...as far as a future, anything can go really.

I would imagine it would take a few years tho

Am I blind

or is he no longer listed anywhere on the Wild prospect depth chart

I don't swing by here all that often

but he was ranked at 7th last year

I was curious why he has fallen off the radar screen--I know when he played for the Giants I has some concern about his ability--but I was told I was wrong.

IMO he's going to pan out as a nice second liner. 25-30 goal scorer maybe?

I'm sorry but that's nuts. Couchraine at best might be a serviceable depth forward but not a 2nd liner. He's small (175 lbs, he's listed at)...And while he did put up points, it isn't that hard in the ECHL.

So did he play a full season in the ECHL?

I just googled up some info

IIRC, Courchaine was signed to a 1 year ATO contract, not the regular 3 year entry level contract.

Meaning the Wild will need to sign him, to regain his rights (which I'm not too sure they will do).

I could be wrong though, that's just what I've heard thru the grapevine.

I believe he's already a free agent as far as the NHL is concerned. We didn't sign him after the three year. Or am I off a year?

Yes, I think you're right.

After Courchaine's 2 year window of elibility to the Wild ended, the Wild chose not to sign him to the standard 3 year entry level contract. However, they did sign him to a 1 year ATO with Houston of the AHL for the 2005-2006 season.

His ATO contract has since ended, so yes I would assume that he is now a UFA.

Courchaine's stats from the ECHL are impressive, and could warrant a look for a 3 year entry level deal.
