OT - New Pro-Basketball team in Quebec

Is that a bad joke? The second reply on the feedback pretty much sums it up; the nickname will either be a stupidly written Quebecois or a racist nickname. Can you imagine if a team was nicknamed the Jumping Negers?

BTW, keep this clean.

NOTE: I meant Negers as an exemple of a racist term, not in anyway meant to say that it's as bad.

N-word does not equal Frog, mostly because of the absence of slavery. That being said, it's a horrible idea. They're both horrible ideas. In fact, I doubt they spent more than 3 minutes coming up with the two choices.

Dude, not cool with the N-Bomb. It's not even in the same ballpark.

well it's not like he spelt it right anyways...

and frogs goes back a long way too guys...it's not like it's a term that was coined yesterday...it has a very racial implication...granted it's not slavery related, but it's not like the word "******" hasnt lost it's meaning with the way it's being used today...

on that, both those team names are atrociously lame. They'd NEVER get any respect in the league. Who'd think up of that anyways? How uncreative is that?

The ABA is a joke of a league. It has like 100 teams, owned by like 10 guys (Case in point, the owner of the Montreal Matrix and of the Quebec team is the same man, and he owns OTHER teams too!)

Did I mention that they allow "guest players" (Who can be anything between a celebrity and the athletic trainer's third cousin) on teams, who can dress up and play during the games? I should have.

There is absolutely nothing here. This is a joke, plain and simple. I say kick that joke out and bring back Lacrosse.

I thought Frogs was only for the French French and not the Quebecers. I thought it was due to the laugh that french people had. I never quite understood "Tete Care" for english ppl either. I wouldn't mind jumping frogs, doesn't really insult me.

I know a player who plays for the Matrix. He has fun and was one tv for interviews a few times last season. Not exactly what I would call a pro league for sure. And the tam name option are a huge joke.

Let's get rid of the Matrix, and this reptile team, and bring back the Roadrunners or Xpress!

hi all,

this always makes me laugh. the frog name came from way back from a war wich i dont remember wich one.

the english were calling us frogs because they couldnt catch us in the ''marecage'' (dont know that word in english) or anywhere else.

people are using this word for bashing but dont know its indeed a real nice compliment.

the army thought me that when i was in it 3 years ago. when i was in kingston, strangely, no one (even toronto people in the army) ever used that word.

thought i'd share that with you guys.

This would be amazing.

They have no plans of expanding to Canada, though.

I can understand why Toronto should be exclude but Montreal come on Mr.Tagliabue -- Montreal = FOOTBALL CITY .......

For the two names really offensive name for a team in a major french market.....It's maybe less less offensive than the N-word but it's still a racist word.......

The first one is like considering us like all Jacques Demers
The Second is just awful....

Why couldn't it just be Les Québecois de Québec.

That ABA league is just a big joke. The word "professional" doesn"t belong with that league.

Montreal or Quebec need a lacrosse team, though. This is actually the real national game of Canada.

As for the two proposed names...................................... Disgusting !

agree. I actually was given some tickets to see a game before the team leaves Montreal. I went, but frankly, it doesnt cut it. A free game here and there, alright. But i would never pay and honestly, the 20 people around me all were in agreement.

Wont works.

Lacrosse was so much better, I went to an eXpress game when they were in Montreal, was pretty fun and pretty exciting and the fans actually liked it, there was 10 000 fans at the Bell Centre, I wonder why the team left after only 1 year?!, I would prefer NLL Lacrosse to ABA Basketball.
