first off all , if we are to make the playoffs, we need to have many players having career years at once, just like theo a few years ago who carried us. This probably won`t happen. We simply don`t have the players to grind it out and be a defensive team like in the 80`s with
Gainey, mcphee, skrudland, keane, carbo, etc premier checking forwards. We don`t have the firre power of previous teams to score consistently, the key is consistently, any one can score , but to produce everynight is difficult. We have a bunch of maybe`s , could be and ifs. Our D is forced to play over their heads, they are mainly 4-6 dman, but are forced to play top 4. Our forwards are weak defensivley,
don`t score often enough, are small , and don`t compete on most nights.
WHat the hell do we expect with this combination? Grinding teams like
minny, nj, buffalo, have role players on their teams, Madden may not be
a true top 6 forward, but 20 goals, great on faceoffs, kills penalties, sound defensively, makes up for not being a 40 goal man. Same goes
for Pandolfo,Langenbrunner,Gionta ,Drury, etc and on D, Mckee, White,
etcc.. they do their job. You can win this way , even a cup, but you
need that nucleus to work with . What the hell are ZEDNICK,AUDETTE,PEREAULT,RIBEIRO, etc going to do when the puck doesn`t go in or when Rivet,Brsiebois,Quintal don`t defend in their own zone, or when Juneau, Dackell,Sundstrom etcc. can`t defend anymore
or just don`t defend well enough . BG NEEDS TO PUT SOMETHING IN PLACE, LIKE PAT BURNS USED TO SAY, YOU CAN`T MAKE CHICKEN SALAD OUT OF CHICKEN SH@T.I know we need time but lay the foundation for an identity Bob , we have some pieces to work with
But playing some of these stiffs by benching some promising kids is not the place to start.
