Hey we're finally through with the draft!

HOORAY!!!

I didn't get neither Fetisov or Sather. My scheme for draft domination has failed. Boo.

30 goals in 1930 isn't the same as 30 in the 70's. I'm trying to come up with more excuses because I'm lazy. Sorry.

That's a good point. I'll make sure to emphasize that when I open the voting thread. Older players need to be considered, not just the new ones.

Those guys back then used to score almost a goal a game too with no assists (before the rule changes).

So far, this is what I'm going to post for the voting thread. Just missing Trexim and Ninot's lineups. Not everyone has put stats with their lineup. Up to you, but you have until Monday at 6pm, then I'll open the voting thread. I would really prefer if you guys could follow the format I used to make it simpler for the readers, but it's up to you.

Some observations on the teams above...

- sXe's third line is one of the scariest lines out there. Not only Carbonneau and Gainey at their best on the same line is scary, but Nilan was not a bad hockey player when he was actually required to play between fights. This line could possibly shut down any line on any team, ever.

- Some guys went for the "Best Talent Available, All-Lines" approach, while others tried to build a balanced team with like two scoring line, a defensive line, and an Enforcer line. I went for the later myself.

- If some picks and when they were made are any indication, some guys are very young or didn't make a whole lot of research for this.

- I put a lot of stock in my defensive unit. I went for the "Meat Grinder" effect that makes such duos as Fetisov & Kasatonov (My favourite duo ever) such lethal weapons.

- I'm pretty satisfied with my draft. I got the exact goalie I wanted in Bill Durnan, and I was surprised to see some goalies go out before him.

As I said above I wanted a grinding defense, however I really wanted either Doug Harvey or JC Tremblay to be my quarterback with Tom Johnson as 2nd D. I was very surprised to see JC Tremblay go out just before I got the chance to pick him, and surely enough he was my next pick no matter who would have been available. But in the second round I felt it was too early to pick him and as Doug Harvey was gone, I picked Serge Savard as my ace in defense. Another guy that would have fit in great would have been Rod Langway but again, it was too early in second. I got real lucky that Reggie Fleming slipped this far, he was on my list from the start and I didn't expect him to slip. He's the hard nosed guy I wanted. Same with Manson who also was in my list.

Vadnais & Svoboda were BPA that fit my guidelines for my defense when I picked them. Also, note the rejected Fetisov pick who also fit the idea and would have been a SMOKIN' pick had it gone through.

My offense is a melting pot of BPA and players I had in mind from the start. Henri Richard was really I feel, BPA. However the guy I wanted in the first was Geoffrion. Toe Blake is one man I wanted as a player and I was lucky to get him, he should have gone in the second IMO.

Marc Tardif was also on my list, and I didn't expect him to be picked, so I was very happy to get him and his 1000 career points when I got him.

Recchi, Corson, McPhee & Odjick are also guys I had in mind and got.

I firmly had in mind to pick Mick Vukota as my last pick, to complement my fourth line with Odjick and Sather. However, I pulled back and gave Paslawski the spot instead. Why Paslawski? It was my last pick and his hockey card came back to my mind. So there. My planned 4th line was Odjick - Mark Hunter - Vukota.

A dissapointment would be having no better than Andrew Cassels as second center. But I accepted that when I let sXe have Claude Provost when he drafted a no-name goalie with a similar name meaning to draft him just before I picked. Had I kept Provost, he would have been the right wing on my second line and I would have still picked Corson, but as a Center, centering the second line. I may have tried to pick Fetisov and Sather as a coach, but I got sportsmanship.

I regret also having Michel Therrien as coach, even though he fits the team spirit. My choice was Demers.

Phil, can you edit your team info down to the format everyone is using? It will make it easier to see all the teams when someone reads it in the new thread.

Yeah, but putting everything just down to numbers, isn't it crushing the spirit of the thing and just making it a pile of stats?

I think there will be a debate in the new thread about the teams. Most people know these players, so they just need a bit of basic information on top of that. We can't have pages of information to give them, it has to be fairly short and uniform so it makes sense and they can make their picks.

You, or anyone else, can go on there after I open the thread and make your case.

Bombay has a good idea, just put a link to the information. But again, this will all be debated in the new thread.

This might be being a little too optimistic, but what do you think the odds are of being able to forward the lineups to a "celebrity" judge? Like send it to someone like Herb Zukowsky, Mitch Melnik, or if possible, Red Fisher and see if they're willing to give them an evaluation? My only concern about the voting is that it will be heavily swayed by people who have never seen some of the old-time players play, or be able to appreciate the different eras these guys played in. Just a thought...

Not a bad idea.....I'll do that when the rosters are finished. No guarantee they'll respond though.

It was and it did.
I remember you could also see an odd shift where Lafleur played on the wing with Carbo and Gainey.

That's because you took a backup goalie. You can trade the backup in for a RW if you want, otherwise you have to play shorthanded...lol
