If that's the case, why not just trade him for a draft pick or something to save us money?

Well Bonk used to be Ottawa's number 1 centre, so we can trade him to get Ottawa's number 1 centre.

We're really getting ahead of ourselves, aren't we? It's like fixing up a nursery when the marriage hasn't been arranged.

Vinnie rumor is a Fischy story

Do you know how old and smelly this rumor is? Try May 28. Stan Fischler was late in getting around to the Dupont item, and the numbbrained RDS people picked it up. Here's the Boston Globe blurb in question:

( Boston Globe Archives, 2006-05-28 )
Amid the Bruins' zany doings last week, the bombshell that went off across the league was Tampa Bay's five-year, $39 million deal with Brad Richards . Between Vincent Lecavalier , Martin St. Louis , and now Richards, the Bolts have some $20 million tied up in three forwards. And oh, they don't have a goalie, because they're not bringing back John Grahame, and Sean Burke will turn 40 in January. Something has to give, and it could be a blockbuster that delivers Lecavalier north, either to the Canadiens or Senators. The Bolts reportedly worried that someone would walk in with a Group 2 offer sheet for Richards. Not a frivolous concern, but it's highly doubtful anyone would have anted up $7.8 million a year. And if they did? Tampa could have matched it. Here in Boston, the Bruins have to be concerned that someone will drop a mega-Group 2 offer on Patrice Bergeron , perhaps jumping his pay to around $4 million a year. If so, they'll have no choice but to match it.

Sound familiar?

Close this thread. I tracked down the source of the Kevin Paul Dupont rumor (see Vinny rumor is Fischy). It has no merit.

I bet you could find that same (or a similar) rumor in 2005, 2004, etc.
Every four years politicians make the same promises and they keep getting re-elected despite never fufilling them. People rarely learn from their mistakes and history repeats itself.

Alright, can everybody start to keep all of the Lecavalier talk in one thread. Unless the trade is made, we shouldn't devote so much space to a unsubstantiated rumour.

Beatnik, despite your huff over seeing it, there is a valid reason to open this new thread. Apparently no one paid attention to the one you allude to, because people kept right on posting under the mistaken assumption it was a hot item. Besides, I've provided the date (May 28). A number of people assumed it was in the Boston Globe just this past week and they expressed curiosity and bewilderment when they couldn't find it.

I agree, the thread debunking the rumor shouldn't be buried in the actual rumor thread. Pretty good detective work my friend.

I'm still happy this is all merged now though.

Its pretty sad when a player from another team gets its own thread in the habs forum and gets 12 pages on him.

For all those levcavalier lovers who want him in montreal this badley, why dont you just become bolts fan. We wouldent need these official lecavalier threath.

Among hab fan Lecave is more popular than are own koivu and hes never worn the habs jersey. pretty sad.

That's why I felt it was important to stop this nonsense from snowballing even more. People read only what they want to read.
