Should the QMJHL change its' name?

Seeing how Moncton won the league championship and went to the Mem Cup Finals, as well as more and more Maritime players being impact players in the Q (Crosby for one), is it time for the league to change its' name to represent not only Quebec but the Maritimes as well?

Something like ...

QMMJHL - Quebec-Maritimes Major Junior Hockey League
LHJMQM - Ligue de Hockey Junior Majeur de Quebec-Maritimes

From a marketing standpoint it would seem to make sense, but I dont know if the Provincial types in Quebec would approve of this. The controversy would be nauseating.

Has this ever been brought up to Gilles Courteau? Anyone know?

Well i haven't heard anything about the OHL changing its name and they have American teams like the Erie Otters in there now or what about baseball's American League, home of the Toronto Blue Jays.

What about QMJHL? Quebec-Maritimes Junior Hockey League. There, not need for a change in the acronym anymore.

I don't see why they'd need Major in there when the other leagues are called the Ontario Hockey League and the Western Hockey League.

How many Canadian teams in the AHL (American Hockey League).

How many Americans in the OHL (Erie, Plymouth, Saginaw)

What?

First of all maybe an honest question but this is the Habs section. There's QMJHL section. But I'm not a mod.
Second, the Q is what the league is known as the Q is what it should stay.
Third with the inclusion of St. John's it's not Maritime it's Atlantic. The Maritime Provinces are only NB, NS, and PEI. To include the province of Newfoundland and Labrador it's Atlantic Provinces. Then there's Lewiston who are in Maine, US of A.
Without calling the divisions such there is now an Atlantic and a Québec division where the teams only have interlocking play twice in the season.
So marketing has been dealt with.
Now, what Q players will the Habs draft this year, anybody know?

Believe me... changing a name (and logo) costs alot... so even if it's a fair suggestion, it won't happen...

oh and the lhjmq logo is so hawt, it would be sad to lose it...

Yeah, changing the name wouldn't be a good idea... but letting it like this seems like disrespecting the Maritimes team.

Changing the M from Major to Maritimes is a good idea. That means no changes in the logos of the league. That would be the best idea.

However, is it necessary ? I doubt it.

Relating LHJMQ to this board is like stating that French Quebecers form 80% of Habs fans.

I think "Major Junior" sounds stupid, but overall, I do not see any need to change it.

that's probably the best idea in the thread... but won't happen due to the cost of changing the name and logo

No. Many league names are no longer wholly representative of every individual/organization in the league, but they are representative of the league's roots. This is no different.

Keep it like it is..........

They have a "conférence Maritimes" so the league recognize the teams in this area.......But the large part of the team are in Quebec so they don't have too change anything......

No, and it's really stupid to try to create this fight here, specially that there is a canadian junior hockey board.
