#21: NY Rangers on the clock

Sorry for posting another draft thread but I'm doing a board to board mock draft. I will keep the results updated in the mock draft board. I can't outlaw "outsider" votes, but that's okay as long as the vote is based on some informed opinion of the player's talent and organizational needs. No sabotage please! Make your selection with the Rangers interest at heart. Tiebreakers will go into OT for one extra day.

*IMPORTANT* By this stage in the draft there are more realistic possibilities than polling options. I realize some people might take exception w/ some of the players I have included or left out of the poll. You can cast a vote for a player that isn't listed. You must select "other" in the poll, then write in "other: (player's name)" in this thread. Voting will end Sunday at 6pm eastern.

Make your selection for the #21 pick (ignore trade possibilities). If there isn't a good fit and you want to trade, draft for value. The Rangers are now on the clock. Good luck!

This is one of the easiest questions around:

Michael Grabner in exactly a millisecond.

Wasn't Jesse Joensuu projected as a top 5 pick early in the year? Why the drastic fall off?

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with his skating ability a bit lacking due to size and ability to adapt to the new game. I personally feel him, Immo and Korps would be a rediculous line.

Because it would be a good combination of size (Joensuu), playmaking (Immonen) and speed (Korpikoski), or because theyre all Finnish?

I don't think the Rangers end up picking at #21 anyway, I really see them making a splash at this year's draft.

It's #21 for now...

but I wouldn't be surprised if Sather traded up a few spots and tried to grab a late round pick too (i.e., trading Rachunek to someone like Montreal or Tampa and getting the 15th or 16th pick for the Rangers 21st and grabbing a 6th too). Don't flame me on the trading partners or the exact second pick, I'm just throwing out a concept without a real diligent thought process as to the exact return - just a concept.

Can't say the #21 pick gives me the warm and fuzzies so I can really see and be happy with the trade up scenario (NIGEL WILLIAMS or OKPOSO), especially since we seem to have alot of redundancy in our young players and prospects..However, this would be my second option after LOOKING at any and all possibilities of trading/packaging the pick to get some established young help to fill some of our holes....Also let's just say I'm not thrilled with our track record of our first picks (be they 1st rounders or not) be it bad luck or not......Montoya (not a personal favorite--didn't want the pick used on a goalie), Jessiman (a personal favorite--but shows what i know), Falardeau, Blackburn,Malhotra,Novak, Brendl,Lundmark,Chernerski, Jeff Brown, Christian DUbe..

11:45am et: Jonathan Toews struggled in the anaerobic portion of the physical testing. The North Dakota forward threw up after his stint on the stationary bike and his bench press was well below median.

Hey... getting back in shape is nothing. I'd snatch Toews in a heartbeat if he somehow fell to us, or we traded up.

Sather is also known for trading down and getting 2 picks instead of one. I agree with you that I think he'll try to trade up.

In his case it'll mean a difference between a few spots possibly. All these tests might do for the top guys is switch them around a few spots.

possible 1st liner or just a general "top 6 forward"?

Agreed like some saying this is a VERY easy pick with Grabner.

If we needed a defenseman and weren't going with the BPA method, I would have wanted Vishnevski.
