OT: Redden wants 6.25 Millions

CKAC said that Redden is asking for a long-term deal at 6.25 millions. IMO, if Ottawa doesn't sign him, I would not mind Redden for 6.25 millions in Montreal. However, I prefer 6.25M invested on a forward.

If that's his asking price, Ottawa keeps him no doubt and probably lets Chara go. That's really not too steep considering some of the other contracts out there.

Yeah, that's what I think too. 6.25M for Redden is much much better than McCabe at 5M.

I would prefer the money on a D then on a forward.Look at Anaheim,it was all Niedermayer and a bunch of forwards that wanted to play

Bargain for Redden, even if he's a distraction.

Because of his good looks? Don't worry we got used to it with Sheldon.

I've heard other things...Off-ice activities...

Lets just say he'd get along great with Ribeiro.

I feel this is an over payment. Just like Mcabe is an overpayment.

Here is how I see it. If you pay a guy like Niedermayer 7 mill or so its worth it. It close to %20 of payroll but he is the type of player that can make the whole team considerably better. Than you have the second tier of defensemen who demand alomost as much money and while making you team better they do not do it to a degree that the top guys do.

2 3 mill D man > 1 six mill D man ie. Mcabe
2 3.5 mill D man < 1 seven mill D man ie. Niedermayer

Smart GM's will stay away from the Reddens at this price, sign a couple of lesser guys and and dole out the big bucks to the true superstars.

Waste of money. Redden is a quality defenceman, but not a dominant #1 on when it counts.

Physically he's not very physical, doesn't stand out as a leader for that pricetag.

I'd be mad if I had to give him $5 mil to be honest. But that's the market and getting mad is pointless. I would rather spend the extra money it would take to get a truly elite guy.

Yea I think we have a solid D and we don't need a Redden like player, I'll actually take Joel Bouchard instead to save money for other players and I think Joel will like it here and will play with heart, I'm not sure Redden will play with heart as much as Bouchard.

Personally I feel that we only need to upgrade Bouillon. On the right side we have Rivet, Komisaek and Dandy and while Dandenault started out lousy the last couple month of the reg and all of the PO he was quite good. Markov is already good Shelly is good on the pp and an upgrade to cube would be great imo.

Those rumors have been around for years and are quite rediculous.

Unless we get a big name i doubt we can get an upgrade for Bouillon that's gonna really worth it , Bouillon stepped up to the task many times playing up to 21minutes at some point . He clearly ran out of gas and then he had an injury. I don't see anyone under 3.5M/4M capable of taking Bouillon spot tha'ts really gonna worth it. Bring back Bouillon for 1M or so and use some money to get a decent winger to take Bulis/Dagenias/Zednik spot .

Redden at $6mil for 5 years? Where do I sign?

The way salaries are going up, Redden will be a steal in 3 years @ $6mil.

Sure he can't make the whole team better, but how many D men in the league can? Neidermeyer, Pronger, Lidstrom, anyone else?

i prefer Chara because of all he brings ; 20 Habs 2 '' taller , 15 pounds bigger , and 20 opposite players 2 '' smaller . Add his overall play and the way he likes to shine the ice side with few players jersey .
