a few overrated & underrated ones in the list ....

Blake : I think he is big time on the downhill. He is not mobile enough for the new nhl, and this is why he was bad this year in COL.

Jovanovski : belive me when I tell you that he and kubina are on the to pof my list for a UFA dman for MTL because they will not ask for more than 5 or 5.5 comapred to redden and chara, but the question is that he is always injured. Also, the latest injuray at the abdomin, is a serious one. It is the same that ended c. Lemieux and D. audette careers. Are you willing to give him 5 M + a year for.

sillinger : I think friesen is ahead of him, yet he is way back.

Kubina : in my book he is a much better option at this time than blake.

Elias : should be in the top 5 in that list because he is a sure 40G , 40 A player., in other words ELITE.

and there are more .....

I'm surprised that the Cube isn't there. He had a very good season last year. If he don't get any respect, I wouldn't mind to see him again with us next year!

I think that we have a shot at two players in the Top 30. But the problem is that we have to resign a lot of RFA, I don't think Gainey will overpay for a player.

I would so like to see Joe Sakic come here, he could be the missing part of the puzzle.

I don't know who will get more money: Sakic or Savard? Blake or McKee?

I can't wait for the UFA period

If Gainey manages to sign numbers 21,27 and 32, I'll be one happy Habs fan!

There's no point in diving in for an overpriced, cap-limiting UFA. Look at what the Cans did, signing guys like Cullen, Stillman, Whitney, Kaberle and Tverdovsky at reasonable prices...

The Habs need to tie up Markov on a long term contract before they decide how much they will be able to spend on guys like Kenny Jonsson or Pavel Kubina.

I hope we sign back Huet.

Other than that, I'm wishing for a solid defenseman, one not too costly, like Kubina, Salei, Witt, Leetch (at less than $3M) or maybe Klee (if he comes cheap).

If we pick up a forward, my hopes go for Selanne (at less than $4M), Langenbrunner, Bondra (at less than $3M), Parrish or Rucchin.

Langenbrunner and Sean Donovan could give some size and grit up front.

As for d-man, I am not convinced we need a 4-5 million $ UFA. Our 6 top d-men can do the job. Only Redden, Lidstrom and Chara are worthing the gamble even if they cost more. Maybe a Willie Mitchell or Ruslan Salei would be of some help if they cost less than 3 million.

Other than a few names near the top, nothing really intrigues me. What's interesting is that the two teams in the finals didn't really make any UFA acquisitions last summer. The Oilers didn't sign a UFA (rather, they used their assets creatively to get Pronger and Peca). The Hurricanes meanwhile only signed Cory Stillman it seems. I know our situation is different than those two teams, but I think if we build from within we'll be fine. I wouldn't want to overspend on any of these players listed.

Kim Johnsson of the Flyers would be near the top of my list if I'm Bob Gainey.

Both teams made plenty of trades either before the season or before the trade deadline, so they weren't exactly relying only on homegrown talent. As a start, names like Pronger, Roloson, Samsonov, Recchi, and Weight come to mind. In addition to Stillman, Carolina signed Tverdosky as a UFA

If think we should be trying to sign someone not on that list, Manny Malhotra as a winger for the third line. He's the type of role player we would need to fill out the roster.

I scanned the list quickly and stop reading it after i saw Valeri bure at #31 and some of the names that he considered below him.

That's nothing to help Eklund's reputation...

I can put up a better list than than in 5 minutes (mainly cut and paste time)

Salei would be a great addition. Salei, Grier and Samsonov and a trade for a Lang and the Habs would be cooking.
