Hurme the answer in goal?

Given that the Thrashers appear to be the frontrunner for Comrie

http://www.ajc.com/thrashers/content...3/03notes.html

and that they have an extra goalie, does it not make sense to include Hurme in a deal for Comrie?? I'd prefer him to Salo these days. Only problem is how to get rid of Tommy.

perhaps Hurme, Coburn, and Stefan for Comrie and Horcoff?

I totally like your thinking on this trade, however I don't think we need to include Horcoff. Comrie should be enough.

what about Thibault? with Leighton in net for the Hawks, and Thibault the new bench boy, why not trade a package for Thibault and we trade salo for a top 4 d man.

What team will trade a top 4 d man for Salo? There is an abundance of goaltending in the league, but a shortage of quality defencemen.

what about this?

To Phoenix:
Tommy Salo, Scott Fergusson, 3rd rounder

To Edmonton:
Paul Mara

Phoneix's goaltending is horrible. Salo is an upgrade over Bierk and will be the heir apparent for the starting job next year when Burke retires. It might work out for both teams. Ferguson brings the same package as Mara without the offense. He would be a good throw in to fill out Mara's spot.

Then we trade Chimera, 2nd for Jocelyn Thibaut.

T-could be an upgrade over Salo, he just needs to play more consistent. Overall he has better fundamentals than Tommy and is younger which could give JDD a couple more years to mature.

Thoughts?

our lineup would look like so......

Isbister Smyth Hemsky
Torres York Dvorak
Moreau Reasoner Pisani
Horcoff Stoll Laraque

Brewer Mara
Smith Staois
Cross Semenov/Bergy

T-bo
Conks

it will only get better after be trade Mike Comrie for someone.

Hurme's not a starter goaltender. I think his stock is inflated as a result of playing on a strong Ottawa team, but he would flounder as a starter for a team like Edmonton where he would be expected to win games and play a ton of games.

Thibault would be better, but he's also also $3+ million goaltender, so we'd need to have Salo moved in order to bring in T-Bo, which could be a lot easier to say than to do.

If Hurme is the answer - what's the question? If any back up is the answer it is Conklin. The Oilers wouldn't trade anything for another backup it doesn't make sense.

Thibault or Vokoun could be awesome goaltenders for Edmonton.

Agreed, why on earth would people always think that a player like Vokoun, Hurme, and Thibault would do better on our team than their current team?

All three keepers are not winning the job in their respective defensively bad teams (Nashville, Atlanta and Chicago), so why would you think they would improve if they came here where we give up defensive breakdowns and giveaways like Hallowe'en candy at Southgate Mall?

I wouldn't mind trading a pick for one of the BACKUP KEEPERs after all, LA got Cechmanek for 2nd round pick or something. But I woudn't give up the farm. I like what I see from Conklin and Deslauriers is coming up. I would however give a lot more for a REAL goaltender coming back (i.e. Luongo)

This thread is why i want Vokoun

I'm letting you off easy. You were comparing him to a back-up goaltender. A majority of those people took Vokoun or Turco and that thread is just a day old!

Letting me off easy? Bring it on oilflip. you'd better have better evidence than a link to a discussion board. That's just fan opinion, and most fans are ruled by the "grass is always greener" scenario. Thibault and Vokoun are not bad keepers by any stretch, but I wouldn't necessarily think that Vokoun would dramatically improve our goalkeeping situation here, or is THAT much better than Salo. Vokoun has had ONE full season as the #1 keeper. Stat-wise, Vokoun had better stats than Salo last year, but I'm not about to write Tommy off yet.

As I said earlier, I'd be willing to trade for Vokoun (or Thibault) for a prospect but not for Comrie.
