I like both the moves at first glance as long as the money isn't too big.

What can I say about Stevey B that hasn't been said. Pure warrior.

Signing Downey to be our enforcer is a good move as long as he is only expected to be the 13th forward.

This is particularly significant in the case of Begin because IIRC he was already under contract with the Habs -- there was a club option -- so this means a two-year extension.

Great to see that Begin will be a Hab for a few more years.

Begin was a sure thing. But Downey was not supposed to be re-signed. As a spare forward, it's o.k. He seems like a good team player. Hopefully, it doesn't cut a job for one of our youngsters, like Lapierre, Ferland or Kostitsyn.

I'd like Downey to show us a little more of his fists though...

Downey is not a regular fulltime player. He is a good filler to have on your 4th line and brings good energy to the lineup. A good guy to have around if needed.

That's what I'm talkin bout!

I like it. Downey wants to be here, and seems like a really good guy to have around. It doesn't hurt to have a fighter on your roster, even if he isn't playing every single game, as I'm sure Downey won't be.

Very happy about Begin, as he was to be a UFA next Summer, so we lock him up longer. I'm curious about the money though.

Downey!!!

i too am happy about both signings. it's no surprise to me that they signed Begin - it's a no brainer to be honest. however, i did not know what they were gonna do with Downey. i guess i do now and i'm stoked about it. i have tremendous respect for him. he plays with 110% every shift, adds leadership, and he is by no means a soft player. as some of you mentioned, we will see him on the odd shift every other game probably on the 4th line for some energy and/or toughness. so, all in all a great move by the team. hopefully a sign of good things to come this summer!

i'm happy with bégin... but i'm kinda sad with downey.
I hope Downey doesnt steal the prospect's place, and also, i hope Downey
improves his fighting abilities.

For all those worried about Downey "stealing the spot of a prospect", we do NOT want a prospect being our 13th forward, which is Downey's role. If a prospect is staying with the team, he should be playing REGULARLY. If he can't hold down a regular roster spot, let him develop and play in the AHL.

you're right. people relax - downey is not a part of the team to take time away from any prospects.

Good signing .
What would your guesses be for contracts.
I say Downey $500,000
And Begin between 2.0 and 2.2 million over 3 years!

I like both signings. Begin for the obvious reasons, and Downey, well that way, we'll have more time looking for guys that will be playing more important roles and less time on a filler. And stop talking our enforcer, he ain't one, he's just a character guy that will either be benched or 4th line in case somethings happen, that won't cost you and will do an honest job. And I'm sure it was for the right price. And his signing means that he want to stay here, so it's definately a good sign and an good guy to have around.

Good job getting this out of the way!

that option was for $646,000, but the Habs didn't necessarily use the option, they may have just agree to a new three-year contract...

Good sign !!! Downey will be IMO the player who will play if it has a hurt and he will can give leadership when he don't play .

Begin is for sure , an ideal 4rt line player and he can score important goal and he's one of the key in PK .. Lets know how he sign

Great news! 2 guys that love playing for Montreal.
I just hope they lay off the 3rd line and 4th line signings now.
Problem with this team has been too mnay 3rd liners for too long.
Let's see some Kosty next year and maybe a UFA p-forward
