I dont really think we have a better teams right now!
I do think it's a better line-up , Koivu will produce more with a power foawrd next to him and the d-corp don't take a huge it with Gauthier coming back and Komisarek is gonna be called-up soon . Markov offensive lost didn't hurt as you would think , Brisebois can play on the PP and Hainsey is ready to chip in ... plus Souray has some skillz as well .
I would trade Markov is we could get Iginla. I like Andrei but you have to give something to get something. Iginla is one of those guys that combines physical play with skills, and that's hard to find. Markov would be missed but I would make the deal in a second. Rumours are just rumours though. This has been such a weird year, I don't know what to make of any of these rumours.
I'm confident Gainey will make a right move... if one's made at all. You gotta figure Zednik or Bulis are in... I'm guessing Hainsey might be in there (which I'm not a fan of)... and some talented but inexpensive guys (Sundstrom, Higgins, Plekanec, etc.)
I dunno... I'd love to get Iggy, but I'm just trying to figure out how much better our team would be. Maybe it'll shake things up for the better.
I'de do the deal in a second !!!! it's weird hearing iginla in trades right when he was named their captain though.
I'd have no problem giving up Hossa and Zednik but Markov I don't know. Not saying I wouldn't do it, just that we wouldn't have a #1 Dman anymore. On the other hand, we would have a true 1st line winger. I like Gauthier but there's no way in hell he's a #1 Dman. he's a good #3/#4 and even maybe #5 on a strong team like Philly or Ottawa but that's it. He's a more physical version of Rivet. Makes boneheaded costly plays once in a while and doesn't have enough vision nor can he controle a game to be a top Dman.
So just mear speculation, it would give (for the future) something like...
meh... Not sure I like it. If it was Hainsey instead of Markov though, I'd be all over it.
What about this?
Hossa, Zednik, Hainsey, Perezhogin, pick for Iginla and Gauthier
* Also to answer the later part of your post, it is strange indeed, but rumors are often a case of wishful thinking blown out of proportion. Probably something like a journalist says to someone that Iginla is just the player the Habs need, an other hears BG WOULD probably give up any 3 players for him, info circulates, is distorted, amplified, and in the end every Media mentions it without having any real foundation to it. BG is as tight-lipped as they come. So how many of all these rumors involving Montreal heard in the last few days have any truth to it? Maybe one, but most likely zero.
Sounds like a package Calgary could use. Hossa and Zednik would help them a lot since they are short on forward prospects. Markov would replace the hole left behind by Morris.
All three players would be welcomed by Sutter as well.
Gauthier isn't great shakes and Calgary would be capitalizing on his image a bit, so hopefully the pick isn't that high.
It's talent for depth and they save a couple million on salary altogether.
I wouldn't do it though. Markov is too valuable and would be hard to replace and our D would be a joke without him. I know it's Iginla, but we could also wait for the CBA to resolve and see what's on the market and give up nothing.
Sure would be nice to have an Iginla-Koivu combination though....sigh...
They can have Hainsey and another prospect though.
By who? There's nobody on that D squad even remotely close of having as much skills as Markov. Markov is a clear #1. All the other Dmen we have would just be by default. Not even Hainsey (at least I don't beleive so) can expect to become as good as Markov some day).
ok. Hainsey is being developed. nobody is scoring goals except for souray. when markov was developping who did he have as d. almost the same core as he did. Markov is good but so is iginla. Gautheir adds a physical presence for us.
besides i think for the meantime we can do without markov, if iginla will be here and he will be a positive and will add leadership, size and goals.
I dont know whats the problem with this trade. u cant get a quality player like iginla without giving quality. u cant give them rivet or hainsey or souray. Rivet is too old. Hainsey still hasn't been developped enough and souray has a history of wrist injuries that might scare them.
iginla is their best forward, markov is our best dman. zednik is a top 6 forward and hossa is a decent prospect. the forgotten factor is gauthiers physical presence which some people might underrate.
this trade kinda is like leclair, desjardins and dionne for recchi....
u gotta give quality to get quality. Markov he's a good d, he can be replaced. zednik is nothing special. hossa has potential but there is no guarantee.
Iginla is proven and he is a power forward with size and someone who can put the puck in the net. especially if he plays with koivu, that would be a great line...
its always like that in montreal though, their afraid to give up too much for quality and nothing is going right with the team. it would be a ballsy move by Gainey if he pulled this one off.
Markov can be replaced? not sure about that, Hainsey can be replaced, you can find defenseman out there who have the same style, but they're is not alot of Markov's out there, he's a special talent, just having a bad start, last year no one would of ever included Markov in a deal, but this year cause he's been playing bad, he can be replaced? come on! as Habs fans we do this all the time, a good player has a bad stretch, trade him, Markov is our futur, sure it would be nice to have Iginla, but since his 50 goal season, what has he done? if ever the deal comes down to Markov or Hainsey, i'd keep Markov and trade Hainsey, who says O'byrne won't be as good, or Shasby, Korneev or Beauchemin (probably not beauchemin) is there another Markov in our system?
