Isn't that less than he made last year? Just a guess, I could be wrong.

Sakic really is an Avalanche legend. And it makes sense.

It is always nice to dream that maybe he would play for the Canucks... but that wont be happening ... at least not this year.

It's about a million less then what he made last season. I don't mind that it's a one year deal, wish the dollar amount was a tad less, but I can live with it.

Be thankful he did the Ave's a favor and took a paycut. Lidstrom appears to want a raise from the Wings.

I think it's very symbolic move from Sakic, taking a paycut to play in Avs.

I think that's a very strong message to all other Avs.

Extremely classy player.

I'd rather have Sakic at 6 mill than Lidstrom at 8. I'd rather have Sakic over Lidstrom, period.

Assuming he wins the Norris, then I think to fair to ask for more money if you win the Norris 4 times in the last 5 seasons. Many try to get more money and Liström DOES HAVE a reason to do so...

So sayeth the Avs fan

Both players are phenomenal, and the best players on their team, no doubt. Sakic trumps Lidstrom in leadership, but Lidstrom's more talented, IMHO.

I'm not sure if they can afford Blake.....maybe they'll set their sights on a UFA d-man

And by doing so further impair the Wings ability to fit the salary of a top goaltender into their cap.

The point isn't to compare the two in terms of talent. Last season Sakic made 6.66m and Lidstrom made 7.6m. Joe had a great season and took a paycut to 5.75m. Lidstrom had a great season and wants a raise to 8m+. One is a team player, the other is not. The fact is that Lidstrom could take a cut to 7m and still likely be the highest paid D-man in the NHL, and create some cap space for his GM to make the team better.

Interesting. The cap goes up by 5 million, Sakic signs for almost a million less than he was making, and suddenly we can't afford Blake.

and you'd expect anything different from quite possibly the 4 time Norris Trophy Holder?
