Completely agree.

Maybe when Datsyuk can score a goal in the playoffs I'll want him on the caps. Until then keep Pavel "Regular Season" Datsyuk in Detroit

The fact that Datsyuk, after signing a two-year deal in summer 2005, is unrestricted in a year (7/1/07) is something of a factor for whatever team trades for him, particularly if it's a struggling team that has difficulty attracting/retaining players. Semin and 'drafted player X with the #4' will be around for a while. It's not just about who you would have for one year, for every team.

Regular Season Pavel may help you GET to the playoffs. Then AO can score the playoff goals.

Yashin for #2 overall pick (Spezza)...would you do it? Lets just ignore that Chara + was in the equation.

Rick Wamsley and Rob Ramage for Brett Hull (1st year player with potential at time)

Bob Carpenter for Kelly Miller and Mike Ridley (2 young players with potential)

Bernie Federko for Adam Oates (I know McKegney and others were involved)

I can go on for quite some time....for every Daigle you bring up there are three or four examples that prove the exact opposite of what you say.

Trading for proven Veterans at the expense of young potential is a dangerous business ESPECIALLY in a salary cap/conscious era.

These type of maneuvers should be made ONLY when a team has a realistic shot to win the cup and they decide to go for it...even then the pain of the move is felt for years (ala Joe Nieuwendyk for Jerome Igninla)

It is not a stretch to say the Semin will be better than Datsyuk. He has unbelievable skill at a fraction of the cost and has yet to prove what he can do in playoffs. Datsyuk is 27 or so in age and has shown us his playoff value.
