UFA about to test the market and was huge in the Oilers run to the cup final. Someone is probably going to overpay the guy. He made 611,000 in '05/'06.

I don't see any reason for Pisani to move. Loved, playing in his home-town and likely to be offered a sizable offer to thank him for his service in the play-offs. He'll definately leave money on the table to stay in Edmonton, unless he's given an outrageous offer by someone.

2.5 per year. Edmonton will be lucky to have him back for 2 if he takes a paycut to stay with the team.

Pisani is just the kind of guy that Sather would overpay for.

I was thinking Neil Smith as well. I remember when he overpaid that Oilers a long time ago.. who had like 20 point in 20 games.. 2 million bucks.. never heard from again.

Anyone remember John Druce?

If you don't then thats alright. If you do you know there is no way Pisani gets 2.5 million dollars next season. Hey, I'm a fan, but there has to be a reality check somewhere.

Well I think he should draw comparisions to Manny Malholtra and Alyn Mccauley. I'm guessing about 1.2-1.5/yr but if its a long term contract like 3-4 years it would be on the higher end of the scale.

Difference being that Malholtra and Mccauley have never won the Stanley Cup playoffs goal scoring title. That makes Pisanis value significantly higher than those two.

Does he deserve? Nope.

Would a desperate GM make a move liek that? Yup

Someone would be making a big, big mistake to offer Pisani a huge sum. He had an outstanding playoffs, but has been nothing more than an average player the entire rest of his career. The playoffs are a funny time, and sometimes its the proverbial 15 minutes for some guys....like the ones mentioned in this thread. Pisani needs to prove himself consistently before we start seeing numbers in the 2 million range...though I cynically have no doubt someone will give it to him.

lol people who think pisani deserves over 2 million per year ...are on crack
the guy doesnt have the skill to be a legit top six forward.....he's like 30 or 31 and he's never scored 20 goals........he's a great checking line guy and is responsible in his own zone..
1- 1.6 per year on a short 1-2 year contract is what he should want and expect..short term contract incase maybe if he develops his offensive insticts and can demand more.

Do some of you really have that much trouble following along?

Players rarely get what they should get, but what one GM is willing to give him. Given what Pisani did in the post season he is a prime example of some desperate GM overpaying for his services.

Right now Pisani is Ruslan Fedotenko, just in a contract year.

I see him around 1.5-2 per year.

Is 2.5 overpayment? Hell yes. You have to remember though that as a free agent he will be overpaid if he decides to leave Edmonton. Certainly his playoff performance is not an indication of how he plays on a nightly basis, but it does increase his value, particularly for contenders looking for a guy who elevates his game. Think of it this way: If the average player is set to make 1.7 with the new cap, he will get at least that since he is about an average player all around but is unrestricted, in his prime, and has a big playoff run under his belt.

I would be stunned if he gets more than $1.5M.

I'm guessing somewhere between $1.5 million and $2.0 million.
