What direction should Bob take?

If you were Bob Gainey, how would you steer the team right now?

i say it's time to stop messing around and lets go for it .
big trade ufa what ever you have to do .

uncle george is making money hand over fist . sell out after sell out canadain dollar 90 cents now no excuses ....

we got a good mix of youth that can play in the nhl now lets get final pieces to become seroius contenders, that are expected to go deep into the playoffs. not we hope to get out of the first round type club .(no more dagnais type's please)

i know the goal is to finish 5th this season well really i dont care about that . we all seen the 2,3,4,5 seeed in the payoffs didnt we?

it's really hard to watch such a storied franchsise as ours sit back trying to scrape into the payoffs as tampa bay and carolina wins the stanley cup .there is no reason this club shouldnt be competing with either of those markets now not 2 years from now

come on george open your wallet bring in the final piece's to make this team a real contender we suffered long enuff

i

I'll go for the BIG UFA...aka Chara
getting someone to sign with the Habs, means that UFA will actually wanna play in montreal.
trading for a big name doesn't necesarily mean that player will be coming to montreal in a good state of mind.

I don't think a single move will make us legit contenders. I would hope that he manages to move up in the draft saturday but that can't make us better for the upcoming season.

Signing a big name UFA to play 2nd line center should be our priority. And outbidding the competition (thus overpaying at 5m$+) is likely the only way to ensure it gets done. Savard or Arnott would be my priority.

Signing Huet is a key. I don't think Abe can win usaa a cup in 2007. So if we don't net Huet we'd have to be proactive on the market for a new goalie.

Acquire a gritty LW who can play... either by trade or free agency.

Either get Bouillon signed or acquire on a new D on the market.

All that should make us competitive.

I don't think you can arbitrarily start out with the premise that all of the options listed in the poll are feasible and that it's simply a choice of which one to take. Any course of action depends on who's available and how affordable he is in money, players, draft picks, etc. There may not be any good deals out there or there may be golden opportunities.

We need to:

A: Sign Huet

B: Get a top 2line sniper ( like Bondra, Sykora,)

IMO we don't need Arnot, because we have 3 centers that could do the job ; Kovy, Pleks, and Bonk.

C: We need a good D (Top 4 talent)

D: Ged rid of (ZED, RIBS, Ryder...)

I would love to see Sergei Samsonov in montreal.
I really respect this guy, a real warrior, nice flashy moves, hard working!
he's also cheaper than big name ufa
