Bernier plays up the road (a couple of hours) from Manchester in the Q. The Kings were up to see Bernier A LOT this past season and were very high on him...I had mentioned a while back I wouldn't be shocked if they went for him in the first round, then the shake-up of Taylor and Co. happened so I am somewhat surprised....

Everyone needs to remember that these are 18 year old kids...unless you get an ovechkin/crosby type the draft is a relative crapshoot.

If he is the #1 goaltender availible than that must say something about him regardless of who else was still on the board.
I concur

Look between TLUTSY, LITTLE, and BERNIER (I thought those were the 3 best picks at our positions, don't care for the D, rated very low)....I'm glad we took Bernier....IF we want, we can use him as an asset in a trade later!! Lombardi is not dumb!

Can't say that I'm happy with the selection of Jonathan Bernier. I was hoping for either Tlusty or Little, myself. Plus, Leland Irving and Riku Helenius were both goalies I liked better than Bernier.

With Lombardi's bias towards goaltending and defense and, former goalie Ron Hextall now in a high-level administrative position, this selection should be put under scrutiny for the next few years. It better work out since they went off the board of what was generally considered a top-12 heavy draft.

No player cares what the fans think.

But regardless I can think of at least 10 guys I would have taken before Bernier including at least 1 goalie!

I hate not drafting BPA.

What LA really needs is a GREAT goalie coach to help the kids in the system.
I was hoping that Frolik would fall to LA, but it didn't happen. With that said, LA's had a goalie weakness for years. I hope that DL's 1st LA pick pans out.

For those who are still talking te draft and not specifically the Kings pick, it is at this point where I think there might be a run on the second tier dman prospects.

Whoa, I don't like the pick but a few things. Bernier was picked 11th and was the consensus #1 goalie. The lowest he would have gone was 15th, that means you can't trade down if you want the guy. And where did you guys think he wasn't the BPA? I noticed that Bernier had a jersey with the Bernier name on it, this means they were somewhat confident they would get this guy. This could mean that the Kings felt Bernier was a diamond in the rough, ranked high on our lists but lower on everyone else's list. In case you guys haven't realized it yet, BPA does not always mean highest ranked player on TSN Top 30 Draft list.

And, now the Lightining just took the #1 Euro goalie, HELENIUS!! Bernier might not have lasted nor Helenius.....like I said, wait and be paitent...

For everyone whining and crying about BPA , Bernier is obviously who the staff felt was the BPA in their professional opinion. Everyone *****es about not having enough goalie depth in the system. Well heres a decent goalie add to the system yet everyone want to go after another center or winger which we already have enough of. Amazing how the team addresses the needs of the system which fans have been *****ing about and the fans still *****.

Was it just me or did others hear Bernier's name mentioned in connection with Anaheim? I think that DL went with the BPA philosophy and Bernier was it. Now all DL needs to do is hire a GREAT goalie coach.

Tampa Bay took a goaltender like we all thought they would. But I thought they would be the first to take a goalie in this draft. They took the other goaltender that was arguaby #1 in the draft. With not much in the way of goalie depth in their system, they can afford to bring Helenius over early.

Obviously? Since when is this obvious? DL said he was picking defense going into the draft and he did regardless of BPA.

And we didn't pick the consensious best goalie its probably Helenius.

Read the RLR on goalies.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hocke...-goalies_x.htm

Think how Bernier would have been ranked the 6th goalie if he had been drafted last year scares the heck out of me.
