It seems that Philly already had the Chicago pick that we used to get White. So in reality we really picked White with a Philly pick. So the trade looks like Philly's 3rd rounder originally from Chicago for our 3rd and 4th.....

Well, maybe he'll take the leap from being an average AHLer to a legit first-line NHL talent in the near future, but I'm not optimistic about that.

Bottom line is, the Habs STILL don't have a dominating first-line player that they've developed from scratch, and this scouting team has been at it for years. I'm not saying that every pick has to be the absolute best player they could have picked, but they could have at least stolen someone. Boston has their Bergeron, Edmonton has their Hemsky, Buffalo has their Roy, Ottawa has their Meszaros, Anaheim has Getzlaf...but where's our coup? For a supposedly top-notch scouting team, they've produced diddly so far. Lots of hail Mary passes, but no touchdowns.

I'd say they've got another couple of years for their 03-05 picks to pan out, and if no one emerges that can actually lead this team, time for a change. Latendresse is looking like the only guy who's even close. Maybe Kostitsyn Jr.

Guy, is your mood bad because of the World Cup and the fact that the Italians will get their azz handed to them very soon? I mean, after what I saw from Brazil and Germany, your divers will probably go home and cry soon.

They're gonna sail until they hit Germany, then they'll hit a brick wall.

Germany's winning it all, 2-1 over Brazil in the final. You heard it here first.

Pretty surprised to see:

No Euros yet.

Pretty surprised to see that in most of the mock drafts, which could or couldn't mean something, we did pick players that made the top 30 in most of them. Fischer, White and Maxwell!!!

So far I don't like the Carle pick, but it can't be perfect....

Fischer sounds like a bigger version of Zubov, and Ryan White is another Mike Fisher.

I spoke with my cousin who has seen white play and he describes white as a begin with playmaking skill.

We got lucky with White and Maxwell , good job by Gainey moving up for White like he did for Latendresse .

But they went into this draft with a draft for need mentality i think. They just picked up another D in the 5th round .

Funny thing, NHL.com has Valentenko at 6'02'' and hockeyDB has him at 5'07''.
