Wirtz gives permission to Dale to buy out vets

Tim Sassone reports that Wirtz has given permission for Tallon to buy out some vets contracts.

Goodbye Cullimore and Barnaby?

I think we should trade Barnaby for something.

Id take Lapointe... maybe... if hes bought out.

He would be a nice veteran for the Sedins or the Kesler line more appropriately.

Cullimore and Brown are the two that instantly jump to mind.

Does anyone else think we should waive them and then bring them back up before we buy them out?

I had some questions about Barnaby. As a Ranger fan I was upset when he signed with the Blackhawks, but I also kept in touch with how he was doing through stats and everything. My question is how did he adapt to the new NHL and are the Blackhawks buy him out for his inability to play under the new rules or was it more of a he's not providing enough bang for the amount of money they are paying him.

I find Barnaby was about the only player worth what we paid him... I definately don't see them buying him out with only 1 year left and the contract he has (1.3 mil?)... Plus he's probably the only one that is being considered that could actually be traded for something (I'm sure there's a few teams that would take him for a mid draft pick)...

With Kukkonen coming back, it's definately bye bye to Cullimore...

Brown I could see being bought out, it's too bad he couldn't provide the offence cause he was a major part of our PK last season...

The thing about Brown is his daughter died, and I'm sure that effected his on ice performance.

Tough year for the guy, and I believe he'll stick around.

You're joking right?

Yes, it counts against the cap, but the cap hit of just over 600k for 4 years is nothing.

This is the first good move by Wirtz in years.

Exactly - The Hawks are so far away from the cap, that a buyout of this size is insignificant.

In fact, the Hawks might need the cap hit to help them stay above the cap floor..
