You got one of the best players in the NHL for a prospect - Congratulations.

Horrible move by the Kings.

No what the Kings did was just trade away a top NHL player and got a top prospect in return, while at the same time put them selves in great shape, to even with Miller's contract, attempt to be able to sign both Chara, and Elias, plus maybe someone else. Great deal in my opinion.

Would you rather have Demitra or Elias? Losign Demitra's 4.5 helps us try and sign Chara or Elias.

O'Sullivan had one more goal (47) this last year in the AHL at age 20/21 than Cammalleri had in the lockout year at age 22. He should make the Kings next season. In his first year, I'd expect production somewhere in-between Cammalleri's and Brown's production last year.

Demitra @ $4.5M or Elias @ $6-7M? Demitra ALL DAY LONG. I don't see Elias as an upgrade over Demitra at all. Besides, what are the odds we sign Elias anyway? 30-1?

Maybe on this board but probably not in real life. That aside, what happens when Elias doesn't sign here? Again, what are the odds?

There is a reason why teams would spend up to $6M+ to sign Elias. Go back and watch some playoff games and educate yourself and watch some hockey games outside of LA.

Man I needed a good laugh.

Maybe - maybe - you have an argument that Demitra is better at the salary. But the real argument is, Elias @ 6-7 AND O'Sullivan & Lewis vs Demitra @ 4.5. You would prefer that all day long? Praise the lord you aren't our GM.

But you have no argument whatsoever that Elias isn't a clear upgrade. Demitra will bury that one chance a game he gets but he is damn near invisible 99% of the time. Plus, he is notoriously HORRIBLE come playoff time.

Elias - otoh - is money in the playoffs, a better all around player (by far) and he has the ability to consistently create offense. (unlike Pavaol)

You have a valid point about signing Elias - though the odds are easily better than 30-1 - but Demitra is not on Elias' level. Cite stats all you want but if you watch the games, you wouldn't dare to suggest it.

I posted on the wrong thread, but Osullivan should be badass whether it be with the 'narchs or Kings.

You put the money to good use elsewhere.

It doesn't have to be Elias. The are other options in the marketplace.

I need a laugh too. I hope we're both still laughing when the Kings are in last place next season.

Don't get me wrong, I love Elias. But the odds of him signing here are miniscule, and who else out there is as good as Demitra @ $4.5M.

And everyone does realize that by trading Demitra, the chances of Chara coming here are seriously diminished, right? Not to mention that Lubo probably walks when his contract is up?

The prospect of paying $4K a year for tickets to watch a team that might be a contender in 5 years is not real exciting to me. I've been a King fan since the Whitey Widing days. I don't want to sit through another rebuilding. I'm sick of it.

I think we all know that Lombardi is FAR from done. Just remember this. The Kings now have over $23-24M of cap room. They only have half of the cap limit committed to their current players. The Kings are sitting in a very nice spot.

And Patrick O'Sullivan is no slouch. Let's see how he does. I think this is first time where fans of both teams hate the trade their respective team made, haha.

If this move was made to add some future pieces and to make room for some significant additions, Demitra will be just another small memory, like Jason Allison. I enjoyed watching them in a Kings uniform, but they didn't become leaders on a team looking for leadership.

I don't think some of you folks realize how fortunate you are that we have a cretin for a GM. But by the middle of the season, you're all going to see what a lot of Wild fans already know - we got totally screwed, and you got yourselves a fantastic young hockey player. O'Sullivan is going to be one of the elite players in the NHL, and I guarantee it. He's no ordinary prospect. He's a future star.

Congratulations, I guess. Enjoy him. You're getting one hell of a player and one hell of a good young man. I hope you foks come to appreciate that better than our GM was capable of doing.

kudos for dean lombardi. he traded an old demitra with a $4 million price tag and got 2 young prospects. O sullivan was the rookie of the year in the AHL and the wild top prospect. Its not like we were going to win a cup with demitra.

I wonder if you could tell us about his off ice difficulties with the coaches? kings already have avery, although I believe he'll be traded soon, and they don't need another head case in the locker room.

It was pretty clear. That Dean Lombardi had only 2 options going into the draft and he didnt know what he was going to do before Draft day. Now option #1 was to get a top goalie and build around that top goalie and Pavol Demitra. And option #2 was if he failed to get a top goalie, then he was to trade Pavol Demitra and do a full face lift on the organization.

I don't know if that is exactly what Cherry said but I can confirm that he thought very highly of him and he always stated that many GM's are going to look foolish for passing up on him.

Sully played on Don Cherry's team the Mississauga IceDogs (OHL) for 2 years. He owns most of their individual single season records. That might be why Don potentially said that. Whatever benefits Don must be good.
