The Atlanta Thrashers have traded former top pick Patrik Stefan and Jaroslav Modry to Dallas for Niko Kapanen and a 7th round pick. Details to follow...

Thrashers won that one on first impression. Niko Kapanen is better than either Stefan or Modry.

Maybe, but I'll wait to see the salary numbers involved before choosing a winner.

I disagree.

Stefan is ok, Kapanen is better.

but...Jaroslav Modry is a good defenseman, solid, hard-working, he'll fit in nickely with Zubov in Dallas, also, he's insurance in case they can't sign their impending UFA d-men.

Who/What I'll be watching today at the draft:

- Habs Picks & Actions
- Blake Geoffrion
- Possible Trades (Pronger Comes To Mind)
- James Sheppard
- David Ruzicka
- Viktor Tikhonov Jr.
- Andreas Morczinietz
- Thomas Paterlini

At 5:42 PM, I predict the Montreal Canadiens will pick Nigel Williams with the 16th overall pick.

Stefan has a lot of experience and hes still young , when he broke into the league he wasent very usefull but he worked on his defensive game and can be a decent 3line C that jump on the 2nd from time to time . Modry is good on the PP , Atlanta D is not very deep i wonder if they gonna pickup someone else . Modry 46points at 1,8M were a bargain.

Kapanen is a keeper and got a nice set of skills , but he's not top6 material at this point. Atlanta get the best asset but Dallas get some cheap depth.

Stefan was a 1st over all pick in 1999 he has rarley shown his ability to be a leader in the NHL let alone for the lowly thrashers

I dont know why the headline has him as the main asset of the trade. Both Modry and Kapanen are more valuable.

Thanks very much for the link, much appreciated. Looking forward to the draft. How long do drafts tend to last? I assume if i was to follow it through to its end, then i'd still be here when the sun rises.

Actually he said NYR

TML cannot afford Pronger inless they do a sign-and-trade involving McCabe and Pogge.
