Wanvig Gone, Boogard For Lady Byng????

The Pioneer Press is reporting that Kyle Wanvig will not be offered a contract this week, which would mean the end of his opportunity with the Wild.

And in further news, Derek Boogard received one first place vote for the Lady Byng Trophy this year. I kid you not. Musta been the time he knocked that guy out cold and refrained from hitting him while he was lying unconscious on the ice.

Probably another Boogaard brother we haven't heard of yet that voted for him...the pugilist with a pen, under an assumed name...maybe I should be quiet about this, Doug might try to draft him next year...

Nice work. I'm actually very happy how things turned out for Derek. He ended up being a very important contributer to this squad last year and should be for quite some time. Many were down on him and his "role" early on, including myself, but he proved he belongs in the NHL. Kudos to his work ethic and his ability to pound major ***.

The Derek moment I distinctly remember is his complete beatdown of Anaheim forward Trevor Gillies, who was in his first NHL game.

This guy is an awesome enforcer.

The Derek moments I distinctly remember are the two times he got schooled by George Laraque!

Lesson: Don't mess wif Georgie and DB will do just fine.

That's a good lesson for anyone. Laraque has serious tricks.

He just needs to put on some muscle this summer because he's lacking strength when it comes to fighting Georges. He'll go toe to toe with him but once Georges gets a good grip, he's able to get Derek off balance and take advantage. Derek's sophmore season's have always ended up being stronger than his rookie season's at every level he's played, so I don't expect the upcoming one to be any different!
