trade - just a thought

I needed a break from a research paper, so I started thinking about wild trades Lowe might pull of involving Comrie. Here's one I kinda like:

to EDM: C Martin Straka, D Michal Rozsival, D Ross Lupaschuk
to PIT: C Mike Comrie, LW Jason Chimera, 3rd rounder

Gives us a legit #1 centre, a defenseman who can help the team now and a defenseman who can help the team in the future. Straka is fairly expensive for us, but we may be able to negotiate for PIT to pay part of his salary ($4.7M).

Lines:

Smyth - Straka - Hemsky
Torres - York - Dvorak
Moreau - Reasoner - Pisani
Salmelainen - Horcoff/Sarno - Laraque

Brewer - Staois
Semenov - Smith
Rozsival - Bergeron/Cross

Straka would be nice, but he makes too much.

I agree, even if Straka had some of his salary paid i don't think he'd be a good fit as he is primarily a pass first type of player as well, so putting him with Hemsky is going to put all the honus of scoring on Smyth and so far he hasn't been able to do that this season.

I like both Rosival and Lupaschuk who has supposedly increased his defensive awareness drastically.

Yeah, I can't see Pittsburgh picking up enough of Straka's salary for us, esp. since they'll also have to come to terms with Comrie on his contract, unfortunately...

Marty for Comrie...not a good deal. But I like the idea of throwing in Chimera. Might as well throw in an AHLer since Pitt has less money than Edmonton.

That is in addition to Chimer who is excellent NHL player.
