Well, the herd is thinning out pretty fast. Chara, Jovanoski, and Kubina went in the first couple of hours, all for a hell of a lot more money than we could afford. It seems clear now that Risebrough's plan is to target at least one, maybe two solid mid-level D-men - maybe Mitchell and Markov, something along those lines. I like that idea better, frankly. Wonder how long we'll have to wait to see what we wind up with?
I'm a little worried about how much these mid-level guys are going to cost.
I'm a little concerned too, watching the numbers come in. 7.5 for Chara, and 5 million for Kubina? Good grief! Willie may wind up getting his 3.5 after all. The market seems a lot higher than I expected it to be.
But what the hell, if that's the price that's the price. Doug may have to just bite the bullet and pay the going rate. Defense is a major priority for the team now, and for better or worse, we've left ourselves in a position where free agency is the only option we have left to meet the need. We can't compete with what we have, and if we can't ice a competitive team, what would have been the point of trading O'Sullivan for Demitra? We're committed to going all the way now, the way I look at it.
