New Goalie Controversy?

With Roloson gone, it is obvious that the current goaltending situation going into next season is Fernandez/Harding. Do you think there will be a chance next season that Fernandez and Harding will spilt games nearly 50/50 like Roloson & Fernandez did the last years? How many games do you think Harding will start? When do you think Harding will become the #1 goalie on the team?

I would imagine that any controversy would be between Harding and Backstrom for the backup spot, not with Fernandez for the #1 slot.

Look for Harding to play 20. If he looks anything close to Cam Ward, then look for him to be a 1b in 2007-2008. If he excels in that role, then look for Fernandez to be shopped for that missing piece to a championship run. Realistically that's a ways out though. Probably the last year of Manny's 4 year contract extension.

I think there's more of a chance Harding plays in Houston again than there is that he challenges Fernandez for starts. (So basically, "me too" to twi's post.)

That's the one I agree with the most. They're not paying Manny eleventy gazillion dollars to spend half the season sitting on his *** watching a rookie play goalie. He's the number one guy until such time as Harding shows he's the better goaltender, at which time Manny will be traded for whatever we happen to need at the time.

I think anything is possible. Look at San Jose, Boston, Montreal, Colorado, Carolina and Anaheim just off the top of my head. All had goalies being paid decent money and ended the year with rookies or "Hardings" in net. Manny would need to REALLY fall on his face.

Right now, file this under doubtful...nothing would surprise me though.

I agree with twi, that the backup spot is up for grabs.

... or at least Backstrom has a chance to challenge Harding.

I think Backstrom is really cover plus we need a good goalie in Houston. Harding has proved he's ready for the back-up role. He'll learn alot watching, talking with and practicing with Manny.
