Dallas has their farm in Iowa - we have ours in Houston. Wouldn't it make sense to flip flop? I'd be happy to take a road trip to Des Moines to see the Wild prospects in action. The respective brass coud also keep a closer eye on their assets.
I agree whole heartedly with the original post. DAL-HOU & MIN-IOWA makes perfect sense.
I think it would help grow interest in the sport in both the Houston and Des Moines markets. Now, if you're star player lights it up and gets called up to the show, it's tough luck. Hope it was fun while it lasted. If they switched, you could still follow the player a little bit. It would be one more reason to take interest in one of the closest NHL teams. Also, being one of the only teams in pro sports whose farm team plays in a larger market gives me an inferiority complex. I wonder which team is more financially viable/ has a better lease? It would be difficult to negotiate an appropriate compensation, but in theory it's a good idea. Plus, the Aeros can go back to their classic jerseys, instead of that godawful Wild-hybrid design.
On a side note, I always thought it would be cool to have the Wild's affiliate playing in Xcel. You know we would be able to get 5k butts in the stands to see the future of the Wild. You would have to move them once the Wild hit a lull and stop selling out, but that might not be for 5-15 years. I'm guessing Xcel has more profitable options for those 40-some dates though. Duluth is getting a new arena downtown, but prob. way too small for the AHL, let alone the AHL + Bulldogs.
