Is Johansson really part of this deal? For real?
If so, I gotta wonder what the Avs are planning to do for a future.

Seriously, this deal stinks.
They gave up Rheino without getting a goalie.
Now they just gave up one of their few offensive prospects, and they still don't have a goalie.

Either the Avs are going with Aebischer (dumb move) or PL is going to have to trade yet another prospect (Ballard)

Previous #1 Avs prospect according to HF, that is not saying much consider the depth in the system for Avs this year, however, he is a decent propsect. Keep in mind that Avs got a third round in return as well. And Konowalchuk is type of player that the Avs need on the third line, he can matchup against other team's main weapon and help on the PK killing, which the Avs are lacking.

The most spoiled fans in hockey are going to have to suffer through a wonderfully long rebuilding process

The Avs got rid of 2 contracts and got one back.....

Could a goalie be far behind??

I fail to see your logic. The avs actually ended up increasing payroll (albeit slightly) with the deal.

Well, I guess Johansson has a minor league contract.

But once they draft someone using that 3rd rounder, it kinda goes back to how it was.

I'm baffled by this.

What a waste of Radim Vrbata AND Jonas Johansson.

I like Konowalchuk but this is a bad deal for the Avs. Wow. I mean, not awful and no doubt PL knows what he is doing but this one sure looks crummy. I admire their go for broke attitude but you have to know that if they Don't win the cup this year or next at most that they are going to have one heck of a painful and long rebuild. Of course, if it nets them the cup then it is worth it.

$$$'s didn't have anything to do with my thinking. I was thinking more along bodies ... you're only allowed to have a certain amount of players under contract on your depth chart ... 50 I think is the magic number.

Perhaps Atl or some other team is willing to let a decent netminder go for a pick and they do not want a contract back.......

It's a longshot and it was just me thinking out loud!!!

solid deal for the avs....seemed like Battaglia never really got his game going in Colorado...he is much better suited for the eastern conference in my mind..eg his play in Carolina was solid

If it's a "go for broke" attitude, they need to get a bonafide #1 goalie.
And with Johansson/Nedorost/Reinprecht all traded, what assets can the Avs trade without hurting their nucleus?

They have a 1st, two 2nd's, and two 3rd's in the 2004 draft.

Which are basically worthless, because this year's draft crop is weak.

Why do people never give any credit whatsoever to the Avs goalies. Aebischer has been very solid so far this season and will be fine playing behind that team. Sauve had a tough start in Edmonton but I saw this kid play alot the last few years, he is that good. He'll be just fine in Colorado. Not much a goalie can do when half the line is caught up the ice each time. Those forwards have to learn some defensive responsibility. Everything doesn't fall on the goalie.

but if a team is looking to move a high priced goalie, I think those picks would look like assets to them.

Aebi has played well so far this season.

Also, I would like to look at it from another perspective. Why did the Caps want to trade away their captain? Was it a salary thing or something?
