Roenick wants to play in Canada

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=169956&hubname=

Saw this on TSN....you guys are lookin' for a center, aren't you?

My guess is JR will end up in either Calgary or Toronto.

I'm not sure where he'd fit in the roster and I'm not sure he's any better than Langkow, Lombardi, or Lundmark besides doesn't he play wing? We already have some veteran presence in Amonte so I'm not sure what role he'd fill in the locker room either.

Of course we may want to sign him just to keep him away from the Canucks.

I think he would fit in well, Amonte is a good buddy of his.

JR is like that playboy cousin you grew up with, the act gets tiring as you get older but you still have a soft spot for the guy. Funny how he mentioned Selanne, I told a buddy of mine that Roenick could be this season's Selanne.

He will definitely be in good shape come training camp. And he doesn't want big money.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in Calgary. If he signed in Calgary and stayed healthy I would predict a 30 goal, 35 asisst season. He still has it in him.

I think he's gonna end up in Calgary. I know he loves Toronto, but I think he'd prefer to stay in the west so he could see his family a little more often. He can play center or wing, and if he is as dedicated as he seems to be he could certainly help out your offense, may even help to spark Amonte a bit.

I wouldn't mind having him if he's cheap.
You never know, he could comeback to old form.

Sign him (if he's cheap enough). I think JR would be unreal in Calgary. I think he is an upgrade over Lombardi and Lundmark and would fit in nice in the 2nd line center role. You could even drop him down to the 3rd line if need be to spread out the scoring. His mouth is always an issue but it'll keep us on our toes.

Why not give him a chance if the price is right. He seems to be really dedicated, and he isnt making excuses - he admits he hasn't taken things seriously, and he wants to end his career on a positive note. Maybe his dedication will rub off on Iggy, Amonte and Langkow and they will come into camp in good shape.

Here is another rumor that is bound to shake up the HF faithful:

JR and tony amote are childhood friends so he might sign for less and we'd have a great pair on the 2-3 line

I personally think that Roenick would be a nice pick up for Calgary. I even think he would go nicely on the top line between Tanguay and Iggy. IMO. Yes he had a ****** year last year, but LA weren't playing him to his capability. He wasn't getting the ice time, so how could they expect him to put up decent numbers. Roenick is definitely old friends with Amonte from back in the Blackhawk days and Roenick is willing to take a pay cut from his 4.94 Million, and I wouldn't be surprised if he signed for 1.5 - 2.0, which would fit nicely on the Calgary payroll. I would rather is Roenick on the roster before Allison. Again it is only my opinion.

I would be okay with adding Roenick as a depth player. Not on the top line. He would fill in very nicely for injured players and could be spotted either on the wing or at center. If he were to come in and shoot the lights out, fine, consider him for centering one of the top lines but he would have to prove himself first. If you were to go to camp thinking Roenick was going to be your top center, I could see that setting you up for a world of trouble.

Here he is quoted just prior to going on XM radio. I see he makes some allusion to being fired up, and Eckland also mentioned fire in his latest rantings about JR. Do you figure they are hinting at something?

"Fired Up" is also a cliche phrase of Amway representatives. Maybe he's excited about selling soap and vitamins.

.That was hilarious.

I wouldn't mind the flames signing Roenick if he's not destined to be a top 6 player ala Amonte.

For sure the lcokerroom morale would be spirited...the idea of him coming here reminds me of how someone said that when players like Nieminen left the spirit fell and there was nobody there to break the ice. Him and McCarty would kickstart that IMO

I logged on here to create a thread in the Calgary section to promote a Roenick signing.

When focused on hockey he's awesome. You need a first line center and he'll come pretty cheap and will probably have a good comeback season.

Together with Iginla he could be great. 97 in a red flames jersey should look really good!

Roenick has devoted himself to get in better shape during this offseason, and I think that wherever he does sign, he will be a positive to that club. I would rather see him in a Flames Jersey rather then Vancouver or Edmonton.

Yesterday on CKNW sportstalk radio(vancouver station) They said that Flames were in heavy negotiations with JR. But then again they said that Shanahan was close to signing with the Blues. Who knows. As a Oiler fan I don't want you guys getting him. I think him and Iginla would look awesome.(kind of like the Conroy/Iginla connection)

JR would be a good signing I think, if he is going to rededicate himself to the game like he says he is...

hopefully, he'd be open to the performance based contract like he says...
