Luongo inks long term

Luongo signed a 4 year deal with the 'Nucks, averaging 6.8 million per season. Guess what local boy won't be around next summer?

That's okay, I wouldn't want to have to dish out that kind of money for him anyways.

Damn, if there was one even slightly available guy I would have loved to see in a Habs uni it was him. Congrats to the Nucks!

That makes the Khabi signing even worse.

Both are horrible. No goalie should make that much. There are so many inconsistent goalies and these contracts make them hard to move. They can be amazing one year and then lose their confidence and suck.

Big deal, now Vancouver has over $10 million of cap space used for (3) goalies, none of them have any playoff success, take a look at their defence, talk about soft.
Yes, Vancouver may have got the best rated player in this deal, but at what price? In the cap world this theory does not work anymore, $10 million for goalies and a very average or below average defence will not take a team very far.
Don't be surprised if Naslund is the next to leave Vancouver

Goalies the fans ran out of Vancouver since Kirk McLean in no particular order:
Potvin
Hirsh
Irbe
Burke
Weekes
Snow
Cloutier was on his last legs

I'm probably missing a few. Good luck Roberto, you might need it.

Actualy that's the thing, no inconsistent goalie should make that. The Brodeurs, Roys, etc. should and even more. I think Luongo is the closest thing to that category that is out there.

Brodeur only makes, what, a little over $5m? And that's for three Stanley Cups, two Vezinas, four Jennings, a real shot at becoming the all-time leader in wins within a few years, and an Olympic gold medal to boot.

Luongo's a good goalie, but no way is he $7m good. Vancouver can keep him.

well, gotta understand the nucks, they havent had a number one goalie for years, they were desperate and here's one that has the potential to be their franchise goalie, good reason to cash out on him. Nice signing by Vancouver

Sure it's a lot of money , but Luongo was 1 year away from UFA status and that's the price to pay to keep him. He can always blame Florida menagement for not making the playoffs but he still got himself a very solid deal. You can bet Mikka Kiprussof is taking note , if im not mistaken he's UFA after this season and i think his agent wont negociate that next deal.(Huet got 2.8 and Luongo the sky).

Keenan has damaged the Panthers' chances for years to come. He's a weird GM.

Keenan could have gotten way more than what he got for Luongo who is "the" goalie to get in the league. He`s clearly retarded.

A lot of us weren`t happy with the amount Koivu signed for...that being wrong doesne`t make Luongo`s 7 million right....but I see what you mean. Both overpayed if you ask me. Yes Koivu is an inspiration and a great leader..but his offence isen`t the best..and for almost 5 million..tough. And Luongo hasen`t really proved he can carry a team yet...yes his stats have always been good and he played great in some international tournaments over the course of a couple of weeks...but that doesne`t translate into NHL success for a whole year and playoffs....

Tough to say....

Yay for him being in the western conference! Won't have to play him four times a year...

never mind the last decade or so.

Luongo is easily the most talented goalie they have ever had since joining the league in 1970.

After all these years, the canucks have failed miserably in drafting and grooming their own goalies. Even Kirk McLean was not a canuck draft pick. Its amazing when you think about it
