The Flyers certainly aren't trying to dump him, the only way he'd be available is if it would allow the Flyers to get a more offensive second line center. I don't think the Isles have that, though a deal that involved one of the Islanders top 3 d-men would be tempting, it would leave too big a whole at #2 center for the Flyers. I don't see a deal happening between these two teams especially considering they're in the same division.
I think a deal involving Janne Niinimaa would be pretty sweet, since he is a close personal friend of and has been something of a mentor to Pitkanen. The problem is that we already have too many defensemen, we cant take on salary (who can?), we need a replacement for Handzus, Zeus by himself is worth more than Janne, and we are stocked with prospects.
How about Peca, Niinimaa and cash for Handzus, Ragnarsson and a second?
He wouldn't cost them a thing, because there's no way that he's dealt to a divison rival.
For argument's sake, I'd say Scatchard but I would not want to do that. They're both big dudes, solid defensively/checking-wise, but Scatch has a few 20+ goal seasons (Handzus has 1 that I know of) and, when he chooses to, is a great fighter. Why mess with a good thing? Both teams should keep those players.
