According to Sportsnet, this is only a 4 year deal?

If that's the case, it might make quite a bit more sense. I think we're all surprised that Savard would sign this early in the UFA period for 4 mil a year.

It is the penalties he takes in the offensive zone which will drive you crazy.

It took Savard a long time to get a big payday in the NHL, no ill wishes from Atlanta.(I thought $4 mil/year sounded a bit low)

They still Have to sign some pretty damn good players (Bergeron, M. Stuart, Boynton, Boyes etc.) who are UFA's. I dont know how much they paid out to release Green and McEachern, but are they going to be able to get in under the cap? They have to sign roughly 11 more guys for roughly another 13-14 million and some of the guys they need to sign arent going to come cheap.
Is my math off or my info incorrect or are the Bruins actually flirting with the cap heighth (and I am happy for the B's fans as I have heard many of them lambast the ownership over the years for being cheap...it is cool for you guys to be pleasantly surprised by the ownership opening up thier wallets. Congrats).
We have enough to sign all our RFA's. Right now we look to have just under 12 mil left to spend. Remember how we traded Boynton and he was signed? Zhamnov will get off the cap number one way or another. We should have enough room to sign at least one more 3-4 mil player. Bergeron is the only large expendature of the free agents we have.

I would never touch a player like Savard at that salary. Imo, a player like Savard can only be in a supporting role if your team is going to be any good, & I just dont see at that salary thats what the Bruins have as their expectation.
Imo, a terrible signing.

This makes more sense, i knew some team would be stupid enough to sign him to close to 5 million.

After Savard tanks it this year in Boston i will be more then happy to trade Yashin for him and Zhamnov(then buy Savard out).

I think many on this board would rather sign Savard, Chara over Zhamnov, Leetch, Scatchard dont you think?

Boston has a ton of cap space this year.
Zhamnov will retire, and Boston will start re-signing there own RFA's
Scatchard is a much better hockey player than Savard.

He didn't have to look to the Leafs.. Boston paid him the 5 million anyway.

As the second line centre he will play more of a supporting role. Bergeron will be the go-to guy next year with his line most likely facing the opposition's best defenders. I thought at 4 mil Savard was a good deal but at 5 it's alright. He should still be able to get 75 points with Murray as his wing.

Are you sure Savard will be the second line centre? Bergeron better have his skate laces tied up snuggly. Savard will get over 90 points(health withstanding)!

Don't be surprised if Bergy drops 90+ points this year either and Bergeron is amazing defensively too!

Those all happened this past season.

If Zhamnov retires (which all signs point too) he would come off the Bruins books too. Boston has a load of rookies that can play and contribute this year.

They were able to ice a team last year with similar salaries, and the cap has gone up this year. They'll be fine.
You know what's sad...that you didn't even mention the Thornton deal.

To be honest, I didnt mind the Thornton deal as much.
He needed to be moved...I'm a big Stuart fan.

Could we have gotten more?? Oh ya...Definitely. But it gave us cap space.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

He won the Hart ya know, and was the only thing consistently working on a thoroughly broken Boston team... Brad Stuart is a 3rd or 4th defenseman.

Don't pretend like it wasn't one of the worst trades in history lol

He may have won the Hart for regular season points, but to date, that's all Thornton does: rack up points. He does next to squat in the playoffs, and his drive and intensity is spotty at best. For a guy his size, he peels off on chances to throw a body check. Glad that he's another team's problem now.

Stuart is more than a 4th defensemen.

And it wasn't one of the worst trades in history.

I predict JT will be like Lindros. Lots of talent, has a few great years, but underachieves and ends up on four or five teams before he retires.

Lindros is at three now and probably a fourth coming up.

Wouldnt it be 4 if he was drafted by Quebec?
